I think it is time we confessed to some of those nicknames kids gave us when we were in school. You know, the ones that you thought you would never lose . They were embarrassing at first but after a year or so they became common place.
I had three. When  I was in the secound grade I miss spelled my name at the top of my paper and somehow , (Don't ask me why) everyone thought it looked like " Butter"
So I was Butter till about the sixth grade then being a tall skinny kid somebody saw me in shorts which was a hardly ever , and started calling me " Birdlegs"
So it was Birdlegs until I was a sophmore in highschool  when on a dare I entered in the first high school rodeo at our school . I  entered the bronc riding , thinking that it seemed the safest. I was not about to get on a bull on purpose and I could not see my skinny self bulldogging a big ole steer. So when I got up on the chute ready to lower myself down on him the blasted buckskin decided to leap up and throw his front legs over in the next chute. My helper yelled at me to get off but he wasted those words because I was already off. Then the chute foreman told me I had to hurry so this time he wanted me to leap down on his back grab that thing they call a cirsingle and hold on because he was going to let the horse out then .
Well, just as I landed on top of him and grabbed that handle the horse decided to throw his head back . Now my head going forward and his head being thrown back was a mismatch of hard heads. They opened the gate and he knocked me completely off his backand down in the chute out cold. The horse of coarse took off. They said I was lucky I didn't get kicked in the head to boot. LOL.
Anyway after that I had a nickname that lasted me the rest of my days in high school---- BRONCO !!

For some reason, people have difficulty saying simple names. People with long, exotic names rarely are given nicknames...BUT my name is Michelle. Plain and common, I still have a whole bushel of nicknames...
  • Shelly/Shell
  • Moose
  • Midge/Mitch
  • Mish Potatoe
  • Wunny Toes (don't ask)

Lol. Those we love sure can be a pain in the ass! Ah, well...

Believe it or not, I am called Muffin in R/L by my family.  I was somewhat plump.

When I was in high school some girls called me "Trainee."  Let's say that I was (and am) not bodacious.  Girls can be cruel at times.

Otherwise there was the occasional "Coon***" nickname, for which I inflicted great pain on the indiscreet user.

But when you have a R/L name like "Angel" you are pretty open to all kinds of name-related mirth.  When I was an altar server the priest would comment that I was the only angel that would be in attendance.

Finally, one of my customers decided to nickname me "Mademoiselle Barista."

The family story is...One evening at dinner time, around the table all family members started to say names they thought they would like to be called...when it got to me, I was still in a high chair and didn't talk much but when as a joke one of my brothers wanted me to have a turn and I said "Boony". Everyone fell out of their chairs laughing.
So it's been Boony all the way through school.
When the slang word for Boondocks or any place that was beyond rual became "Boonies" I changed my nickname to 'Al Capone' but people called me Bugs instead, because I ate insects.....fried...dipped in chocolate....I made homemade Bug Jerky...you name it.  If my student loan had gone through we wouldn't be having this conversation.

As long as I can remember my sister has always callem me Louie and my dad called me gluie  (middle name is Lou).  Those are the only two names I can remember having until a few years ago a Native American friend gave me the name Redfox, and Sweet Spirit just happened.  Mary
