Well, Jingle Bob called me Saturday and I went over to reteive my part of the check we recieved from the State Park Officials for taking care of their critters through the winter. Now they will be taken back to Centerfire, Palo Duro Canyon , and Lake McKenzie to graze and let the tourists and Park goers see them. It was a long winter but the Check we got makes it all worth the trouble.
Anyway, when I arrived at Jingle's I drove up in the driveway and shut off my vehicle and suddenly I saw something I never thought I would see around Jingle's house. There was a big yellow tabby cat laying on Jingle's porch just sprawled out, airing itself out. It was sound  asleep and even though his big ole body was on the porch  its head was hanging off just dangling where the front steps were.
Well I got out and sauntered up to the porch and Jingle saw me and came out of his front door . I looked at him and grinned and nodded toward the cat ,
" Got yourself a sidekick Jing? " I ask .
Jingle sorta sighed and took a spoonful of ice cream , gulped it down and said," Yeah, he came over a couple of days ago . Guess he was lost or somethin' , anyway he looked like he was hungry so I gave him some gravy I had left over from supper."
   "  Is he somebody's ? I ask.
" Don't reckon, he never left any way."
About that time that cat turned over and when he did it fell on to the top step ,then down to the next step and the next and not even bothering to move meow are nothing came to rest on the sidewalk. Darn thing looked kinda like a slinky the way it came down. I leaned over to take a long look at it wondering if the dang thing was dead, but it finally raised its head and gave it a shake . I looked up at Jingle and he shook his head.
" I told him he could hang around here and I'd feed him long as he pulled his weight. " Then he took another bite of ice cream.
Suddenly the cat jumped up and ran across the lawn and caught a grasshopper in its paws.
Jingle smiled and said " See there , he already knows how to fetch fish bait. "
We laughed and Jingle gave me my check and when I got back in the pickup I saw Jingle over there scratchin'  the cats ear. I smiled . Now there was a pair . Then it dawned on me, I already had thought of the cats name. From now on when I come over I'll be coming over to see Jingle Bob and Little Jingle.

That is so funny, DanD. I love the part about the slinky cat dripping down the stairs. Thanks.

Hey DDD,
I liked the story about the Little Jingle the slinky cat. Thanks for sharing. We have a cat that has adopted us by the name of Oreo. He actually belongs to a neighbor but choses to hang out with us. There is also a stray cat that sleeps on our carport, but runs like mad every time we approach him. Great story!

Yepp, that's how cats select staff.  Inscrutable.

Good luck to Little Jingle.

Aw Dandy I really liked this story.  It made me think of the time that my Chelsey found me.  She showed up at the laundromat where I work and kept trying to come in the door.  It was the first bitter cold night of the fall.  She was so persistant that I let her in and gave her a snack.  She enjoyed all the attention from the customers and I carried her around in my arms half the time.  I phoned Mom and asked if she could bring her cat carrier up and she did and while I was cleaning up, she put Chelsey in one of the laundry carts and drove her around.  The rest is history.  Mom says cats have "sucker radar".  That is very true.
