Free, I will be happy to assist you if you still need some help. There are different types of techniques for different types of hide/buckskin. If you'd like to fill me in on the type of project...I can maybe give you some options. Cherokee Kate |

Hi Free! Okay, lets start with filling me in on the project... what is the size of the project area? Will you have any edging you won't be using? Is it a garment or something smaller? Is it a finished smooth buckskin or a rough tanned hide? What is it you are trying to have a pattern for? Is it a detailed pattern or simple? beading/painting/applique? Sorry to ask so many questions, but will help me pick the better technique for you. With respect, Cherokee Kate |

i need to put a pattern on to deer hide ... (leather) so i can burn the design ... i can do the design on wood (using transfer paper) ... but i need to know how to transfer a pattern to the hide - soft buckskin....
... using pyrography (burning tool) on the hide ... the only thing i need to know is how to transfer the design onto the leather (transfer paper will NOT work), nor the iron-on kind ....... doesn't matter about edging or size ...
.... thanking you for attempting to help ..... but all i need is a method to transfer the pattern to the hide ...

No problem...go to your local fabric store, you'll find a plyable vinyl. Use an ecto knife to make a template from you pattern. Lay this template on your hide. Soft buckskin acts like velvet under tracing paper...it crawls around. They soft vinyl will lay on the skin and keep it from moving on you. If you have edges that you won't be using you can T-pin the hide into position. Then you can use a charcoal pencil to trace thru the template onto the hide or ink pen, what ever you like to use. Remove template and then burn the pattern into the buckskin. Hope this was of help. Best wishes and hope to see your finished product. Cherokee Kate |
