In Honor of My People~ the Native Americans
(Please take the time to drink in the words of each profound quote)
"Oh the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thought nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are , chaff and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away."
~Anonymous Shoshone
"My friends, how desperately do we need to be loved and to love. When Christ said that man does not live by bread alone, he spoke of a hunger. This hunger was not the hunger of the body. It was not the hunger for bread. He spoke of a hunger that begins deep down in the very depths of our being. He spoke of a need as vital as breath. He spoke of our hunger for love." ~Chief Dan George
"You must speak straight so that your words may go as sunlight into our hearts."
~Cochise ("Like Ironweed") Chiracahua Chief
"Treachery darkens the chain of friendship, but truth makes it brighter than ever."
~Conestoga Proverb
"It is no longer good enough to cry peace, we must act peace, live peace, and live in peace." ~Shenandoah Proverb
"Beauty before me
Behind me
Below me
Above me
All around me
In beauty, I have spoken." ~Annie Kahn Navajo
Everything the Power does, it does in a circle."
~Lakota Proverb
"When we show our respect for other living things, they respond with respect for us."
~Arapaho Proverb
"I have been to the end of the earth. I have been to the end of the waters. I have been to the end of the sky. I have been to the end of the mountains. I have found none that are not my friends."
~Navajo Proverb
"All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth."
~Chief Seattle Suqwamish & Duwamish
"In our story of Creation, we talk about each one of us having our own path to travel, and our own gift to give and to share. You see, what we say is that the Creator gave us all special gifts; each one of us is special. And each one of us is a special gift to each other because we've got something to share."
........John Peters (Slow Turtle), WAMPANOAG
"Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children."
.........Ancient American Indian Proverb..........
"Someday the earth will weep, she will beg for her life, she will cry with tears of blood. You will make a choice, if you will help her or let her die, and when she dies, you too will die."
...................John Hollow Horn, Oglala Lakota, 1932......................
Recent message from the Hopi Elders
"You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour.
Now you must go back and tell the people that this is the Hour.
And there are things to be considered:
Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relationship?
Where is your water?
Know your garden.
It is time to speak your Truth.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.
This could be a good time!
There is a river flowing now very fast.
It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.
They will try to hold on to the shore.
They will feel they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly.
Know the river has its destination.
The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of
the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water.
See who is in there with you and celebrate.
At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally.
Least of all, ourselves.
For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a
halt. The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves!
Banish the word struggle from your attitude and your vocabulary.
All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.
We are the ones we've been waiting for."
