Well Rick, yes one could send prayers on smoke without smudging  . When I send prayers on smoke at times , its only my message to Creator I send. 

 But if I need to smudge for cleansing, it is different as I bring the smoke into my body to cleanse it before it goes up to Creator, with my prayer.   I hope you can understand how its different...hugs Annie

Yes I send smoke all the time without smudeing, have a firepit outside where I send prayers, I build a fire and put herbs and different things into it and send prayers.
