The traditional customs of Native Americans originated not only as a means of survival in response to the demands of difficult conditions, but also in response to the various needs that comprise what it means to be human. Native Americans have existed for thousands of years, developing a rich heritage that exemplifies the value of the group.
The cultural practices and traditional views that arose out of a need to survive are for many Native Americans a way of life profoundly rooted in a pride and respect for such a gift--the gift of life.
