Greetings, With all of the histeria about bird flu, it is nice to know that there are effective herbal treatments for viral infections. Among the most outstanding is elderberry. Unlike echinacea and astragalus, it does not work by enhancing immune function, but by blocking viral entry into cells. Teas made from the flowers, the berries and the juice (if you can find it) all work well. The oil of a closely related plant, hyssop, is like a wonder drug for cold sores. It puts the expensive OYC antivirals like abreva to shame. It is also interesting to note that the primary ingredient for the much ballyhooed tamiflu is found in pine needles. A Canadian company is now preparing to market organically derived shikimic acid (the active ingredient) which will cost significantly less than the patented synthetic. Peace and Light, 2Trees |

o'han, I was taught cedar berries, red cedar. Also use the inner bark to help with lacking energy when needed. I use about half a dozen in 1- 1 1/2 cups water... boil 5 min... bark tastes like sasafras tea... in january we heard about communities gathering ole' xmas trees to use the leaves (needles) for fighting flu... said they didn't have enough of the medicine and cedar was similar chemical... i imagine that could work to. (not to use juniper berries... that's woman's medicine & something totally different) waope |
