Hello,
Thought I should introduce myself and tell you a little about me. I am 53 years old and lived in Kentucky for most of my life. My heritage is mostly Cherokee, but my ancestors came from the mountains in Tennessee and some marriages occurred with other nations, so I can’t determine as of yet all of it. My Native heritage is from my mother’s side…I catch a lot of flack as I took mostly after my father and have hazel eyes, and blonde hair.
Over the years my hair got darker so the grey would show up better, but until I was about 35 my hair was near white. I have never fit in anywhere since I was a child. I learned of my heritage about 15 years ago and began to realize why I never did fit in. I am very proud of my heritage, and live my life very differently from my parents and grandparents.
A German man introduced my family to Christianity long ago. My spirit is very old and I do not follow my upbringing. I get so annoyed with so many today that have been so honored by an Elder, with knowledge of our ways, and then share our ceremonies with everyone. Our ceremonies are sacred, and too many claim to be Native and exploit our people and our culture of monetary gain.

I have 5 beautiful grandchildren who are my reason for seeking as much knowledge as I can. I want to make sure they know who they are, and be proud of their heritage. If we don’t teach the children our culture will die.

I do some sketching when I have time, and enjoy making jewelry. I believe strongly in the stone people, and my jewelry is made using different stones with different powers. All of my jewelry is unique and designed for each individual person.

I am attending college for my Associates degree in Networking and Security. In January
I had to take some time off for knee surgery, but I am healing and getting better.

I want to say how much I appreciate being accepted, and am looking forward to getting to know everyone. This site is so organized, and there appears to be much knowledge here.

Love,
Strong Heart Woman “Agiya U?BR>

Welcome, again, Strongheartwoman

Thank you so much for telling us about yourself.  Your jewelry sounds wonderful.

If you have the chance drop in our chat room on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, which are our fun chats, that we may get to know one another.  Tuesday is our learning/teaching chat which has special guidelines in place so the learning can be done.  That is not the greatest, "get to know each other" chat.

Take your time and look around and then post some and join us in chat.

Linn

Thank you again for the welcome.  I am hoping to have some time soon to be online.
I would love to meet you in chat... I just have such a busy schedule right now.  Hopefully it will slow up soon.
Love, Melinda SHW

Hi I have dropped in every now & then to post a news story I recieved, but am the candidate for my local Advisory Neighborhood Comittee, they are doing some very terrible things here & they are done to the combined group of Native-African peoples.
I am running as a Native candidate first time this has been done in this city, especially since "Native people do not live in this city" Ha!
