Prayer Feathers
Prayer feathers are beautiful blessings. They honor the spirit of the bird who created each feather. They have a spirit of their own, which they contribute when they become a ceremonial instrument, as in for smudging ceremonies.
Prayer feathers also make beautiful gifts.
If you find long wing feathers of crow, raven, sea gull, Canada goose, pheasant, or wild turkey, clean (with warm soapy water) and smudge them with sage.
Cut or tear foot-long strips of red cloth, about 1/2 inch wide. Dab a small amount of white glue on the base of the quill, wrap it with the folded strip of red cloth, and tie it securely. If you like, you can attach a small herbal prayer bundle to the base of the quill.
