Royal Gorge Bridge and Park Canon City, Colorado News: TWO BABY WHITE BUFFALO BORN Royal Gorge Bridge & Park proudly announces the birth of two rare coloration, white buffalo calves. The Park has maintained a special breeding program in hopes of producing this rare white coloration in offspring. The Park´s Royal White line of buffalo made their first appearance in 2003, at the Western Wapiti Wildlife Park when a white buffalo was brought in for all guests to enjoy. The two bull calves are sired by Chief Silver Bullet, the Park´s three and half -year old buffalo. The rare white coloration has been revered by Native Americans for centuries and has created many legends. Of the three calves born this Spring, there were two white bull calves, and one brown heifer carrying the white gene. At birth they all weighed around 65 pounds. The first calf, born May 29, 2007, was named Chief Joseph after the Native American Nez Perce Chieftain. Royal Gorge Bridge & Park is looking for that great special name for the handsome bull calf born June 3, 2007, sired by Chief Silver Bullet. |
