Great Spirit, Great Spirit, My Grandfather, All over the earth the faces of living things are all alike. . . Look upon these faces of children without number And with children in their arms, That they may face the winds and Walk the good road to the day of quiet. . . There is no death. . . Only a change of worlds. . . Only a change of worlds.
HEALING MOTHER EARTH - THE SACRED DANCE Just what is Earth healing? And who are we to think we can "save the planet?" It's good to hear people asking these questions. They signal a heightened awareness about the state of the world, the environment. They mean we're paying attention, that we're listening. We speak of "healing" the Earth Mother through ceremony, prayer or walking the land. These certainly are ways we may assist the Earth in cleansing and healing herself from the effects of overdevelopment. Earth Mother's Lament When you walk on Mother Earth, tread softly. She has a dented spirit which needs healing. She is as lonely as a lone pine tree in a desert, for lack of those who turn to her for her love. Who in turn go to her realm to give her love. She is a Nurturer and Creator, but no longer do the people hear the lullaby at night as she sings all creatures to sleep. Nor do they feel the warmth of her caresses at dawn and sunset or hear her words of wisdom on clear moonlit nights. She is at one with all creatures large and small, and they attune themselves to her heart beat, all except mankind. They are so concerned with surviving in this world that they build concrete and steel, dam rivers, fill the air with toxic fumes and metals, and block out the Creators energy with rays that slowly kills all that lives on the surface of the planet. The seas and all the waters are contaminated and her animals are hunted, and her plants are destroyed, not just for food but for self gratification and so called sport, or to build a temple to the god of sex in their lives. Mother Earth weeps with sadness and pain for she must do what is needed for this planet to keep it in harmony with the Universe. This might mean using the so called "natural disasters" to call heed to her needs. Yet, still few hear her cry, for all to listen to her. Many love her and all that she is, yet even though they rise up and speak to others to care for her, they do not ask her to reveal herself to them. She is a sentient being with a Soul, a Body, a Heart Beat, and Love, Joy, Beauty, but now also Sadness and Pain. She is able to communicate and will do so if you truly believe in her and love her. She has her own form of communication which has no need of language, yet you will know what she is asking and giving you, not in words, but in feelings. It is not just the gifted but all who should be embracing with open arms, the Love of Mother Earth. For then, there will be more happiness on Earth. "If you would heal the Earth, If you would dance the dance of the Earth, then you must needs know what this means. You must know first of the soul of the Earth. you must merge and become one. You must feel the Earth as it sinks into you and as you sink into it. For you, in truth, incarnated To heal that part of your soul Which is of the Earth and of fire - That part of your soul which needs grounding - That part of your soul which is of the other. You have learned in other times and places Of other aspects of your soul. To be complete, you must know them all. You accept the fire first In your roots, In your grounding, In your Earth. It cleanses and it burns and purifies Until you become incandescent. Until you have melded the Earth With the incandescence of the soul. To allow your soul and light essence To become the beginning, The root The ground The fertile Earth. For only in that can you then move To the fire. Only then, can you let go Of this physical being That you have become For you will have incorporated The essence of this grounding and Earth Without necessarily carrying the form and structure." " AS ABOVE, SO, BELOW " We are the caretakers of the Earth, and we are being asked to assist in her cleansing and rebirth by calling in and anchoring the cosmic energies now available to us from the heavens. We can do this through prayer, meditation or special ceremonies. These activities contribute to our personal healing as well as planetary healing. You can plan a formal activity, or create an impromptu ceremony as you walk through a park. It's not the activity you choose but your intent to assist in the healing process that matters. The Sacred Seven PrayersO Great Spirit, who art before all else and who dwells in every object, in every person and in every place, we cry unto Thee. We summon Thee from the far places into our present awareness. O Great Spirit of the North, who gives wings to the waters of the air and rolls the thick snowstorm before Thee, Who covers the Earth with a sparkling crystal carpet above whose deep tranquillity every sound is beautiful. Temper us with strength to withstand the biting blizzards, yet make us thankful for the beauty which follows and lies deep over the warm Earth in its wake. O Great Spirit of the East, the land of the rising Sun, Who holds in Your right hand the years of our lives and in Your left the opportunities of each day. Brace us that we may not neglect our gifts nor lose in laziness the hopes of each day and the hopes of each year. O Great Spirit of the South, whose warm breath of compassion melts the ice that gathers round our hearts, whose fragrance speaks of distant springs and summer days, dissolve our fears, melt our hatreds, kindle our love into flames of true and living realities. Teach us that he who is truly strong is also kind, he who is wise tempers justice with mercy, he who is truly brave matches courage with compassion. O Great Spirit of the West, the land of the setting Sun, with Your soaring mountains and free, wide rolling prairies, bless us with knowledge of the peace which follows purity of striving and the freedom which follows like a flowing robe in the winds of a well-disciplined life. Teach us that the end is better than the beginning and that the setting sun glorifies not in vain. O Great Spirit of the heavens, in the day's infinite blue and amid the countless stars of the night season, remind us that you are vast, that you are beautiful and majestic beyond all of our knowing or telling, but also that you are no further from us than the tilting upwards of our heads and the raising of our eyes. O Great Spirit of Mother Earth beneath our feet, Master of metals, Germinator of seeds and the Storer of the Earth's unreckoned resources, help us to give thanks unceasingly for Your present bounty. O Great Spirit of our souls, burning in our heart's yearning and in our innermost aspirations, speak to us now and always so that we may be aware of the greatness and goodness of Your gift of life and be worthy of this priceless privilege of living. |
