No, it's not right for someone to impose or inflict their own opinion on others, but from my own experience it can make for some very interesting discussions or debates. So long as those don't get out of hand and name-calling begins or someone gets their nose bent out of joint. IF you can have a discussion between two people of opposing viewpoints, without one trying to inflict their own beliefs and opinions on the other, it does help to give a better insight into the person! It's a great way to learn about people...to learn about other's beliefs and why they believe the way they do. It's also a good opportunity to learn about you and your beliefs and why you believe the way you do.
I've never been the kind of person to say, "What I believe is right and what you believe is wrong...it's my way or no way", but I've always been the kind of person that will say, "Why do believe that?"
And, I do agree with CC...many wars have begun by some leader thinking their belief system, their system of government or whatever is "better" for the people of another country and in "inflicting" that belief, have convinced others to give up their lives thinking they are doing the right thing.
It is wrong...but it is an incredible way to peek into someone's psyche.
