Hello, am looking for information on my great-grandfather Patrick Conneely, born between 1870-1890 in Ireland (most likely Co. Galway near Oughterard). He married NAME UNKNOWN sometime around 1890's, and settled and had kids in Glengowla, Oughterard, Galway, Ireland. Patrick died here sometime between 1907 and 1920. It is believed his wife died before 1915. They MAY be buried in Kilcummin Cemetery in Oughterard but have not been able to confirm this.

Patrick and his wife had about 9-11 kids, some of them were (birthdates may not be exact):

* my grandfather John Joseph Conneely, b. Jul 4 1907, emigrated to the US sometime in the 1920's or early 30's, changed last name when there to Connolly. Married Kathleen Keegan in mid 1930's and settled in West Hyannisport, MA. He died there in Oct 29 1989.
Willie, died sometime before 1993
Matthew, b. Jan 1 1897, emigrated around 1920's, also changed last name there to Connolly (may have been the one responsible for that), married and settled in Boston MA until his dead on Feb 20 1983.
*Nellie, b. after Jul 1907
*Barbara, b. before July 1907, died in Oughterard area sometime in the 1950's.

There were more kids but cannot remember the names.

Any help on the Conneelys would be appreciated, I know there are quite a few of them but other than Patrick I don't have any connections! Thanks!

Many thanks to everyone for the info so far. Thanks to Patria McWalter, archivist for the County Galway Archives, she was able to determine (via 1911 census) that Patrick Conneelly my great-grandfather was born c. 1859, and at the time resided in Glengowla and/or Faugh West, Oughterard Co. Galway, in an area known as Camp Street. His wife Mary (maiden name unknown) was born about 1871, it also lists my 7-yr old grandfather John and 7 other siblings at the time. They had a one-room brick house with a perishable roof, which sounds true as well as I've visited the house and all that is left is the brick walls, roof was gone.

If this rings a bell with anyone, I'm definitely looking to hook up more ancestry if anyone has that info. Patria is mailing me a photocopy of the microfilm of this census so I'm hoping to have it on hand in a few weeks.

Many thanks and keep the info coming! :)

Hi Rob

I have found a grave in Oughterard cemetery with the headstone marked so:

In Loving Memory of Michael Conneely of Manchester and Barna, died 5th July 2001.  Rest in Peace

Rob, do you know if he was related to the Feeney family?  I am asking this because Michael's grave is in a large Feeney family plot.  When I was there at the weekend, I wrote down what it said, and will this send to you separately.

Kind regards

Marian

Hi Rob

The larger headstone reads:

In loving memory of John Feeney died 15th May 1900 aged 65 years.
His son Patrick Feeney died 6th Dec 1908 aged 35 years.
And his daughter Margaret Lee died 2nd Feb 1910 aged 27 years.
John Feeney died 2nd Nov 1947
His wife Katherine died in 1936
Their daughter Mary died 30 Nov 1934

I can give you contact details of the local PP.  Just let me know.

Rob, I think I may have found the link with the Feeney family.

Patrick Feeney (who died in 1908 age 35) was born Galway, Ireland 3rd Nov 1872 to Thomas Feeney and Mary Conneely.

Hi Marian:

Appreciate you looking into that for me! Have forwarded this to my aunt who has the information on that side of my family. But knowing her hopefully I'll hear back from her before Christmas lol.

Thanks again and appreciate it!
