Bear-
Bears are omnivores feeding on nuts and berries, as well as fish. The Brown Bear and Grizzly Bear are two varieties that roam the forests near fresh water streams in North America. Bears hibernate in the winter, making a den in a cave or hollow tree. And they can be seen playing and protecting their young in the spring and summer months.
Native Americans know that grandmother bear brings healing power. Bear is strong and grounded to the earth and can stand on two legs like a human. It knows which berries to eat to make it strong and healthy. It nurtures itself and it's young, carefully protecting cubs from danger.
Bears healing power can nurture you too if it is your ally. It wants you to remember that you are never too old for a little healing touch from someone you love. In a dream, it may lead you into its cave where the ancestors gather to teach you about bear's special power. It will comfort you in the dark and bless you in the morning. Bear comes when you need a mother's touch to sooth your fears. It will bring you courage to face your own fears one at a time. Maybe you are afraid to go to school because others aren't accepting you. It may teach you to be more assertive in finding someone who you will enjoy playing with. "Just go up and ask them. They won't bite", says Bear. Or maybe you are on your own way too many hours after school because your mom works. Bear agrees that you are not grownup yet. And you can tell her you won't stay home alone any longer.
If Bear is you animal totem it will nurture you on the path of life giving you a pat on your back for encouragement. It will take away your hurts and enter your dreams when you are sick to heal your body. It is powerful medicine because it nurtures your heart, your body and your soul. And when your heart is full your body will heal naturally.
Bear wants you to be a caregiver to others who need a little Bear medicine. Walk your younger sister or brother to school so they don't feel alone or scared. Give love and compassion with your heart to others and their fears will fall apart.
