Baby Journal

Remember those precious moments forever.

Helpful Hints & Tips
to create a long lasting Baby Journal

It is best to carry around a small cheap, notebook, something that you will not care if it gets dirty or ruined. Keep a nice journal, or a baby book, in a separate area, and then transcribe the notes when you find the time. Do not feel guilty if it often takes you a long time to updates your main journal ?babies are a lot of work.

While pregnant, carry around the book and record the baby's movements, Lamaze class, or any interesting conversations or thoughts, including potential names.

Write about your feelings after the baby is born, the way the baby looks, the labor process, or height and weight. Photocopying the birth certificate and pasting it into the journal makes a nice visual addition to your book.

Keep notes about the baby. How the day went. If you have a schedule for the baby, write it down, and put a new copy in when the schedule changes.

Make a list of milestones in the back of the book. The first day the baby sat up, walked, talked, etc?Fill in the dates in the back of the book, but these entries are what will fill up most of your baby journal. You do not have to write everyday if it was the same routine, but occasionally, you will want to record the usual day so you can look back and remember what it was like at various stages of the babies life.

Record the visits and comments from the pediatrician.

When you get photos back, include a photo, and write your comments about it.

Form a goal of how often and how much you want to write. Write a few lines at least once a week. If you are very busy, you can make your entries while the baby naps or ask someone to baby-sit for a short time.

Remember, this is a record of the baby's early life. A life you shared with your child. Anecdotes or quotes about the baby from others make interesting reading later on in life. Eventually, you may wish to share this journal with your child. Do not be afraid to let them see who they were, this is where the fun, wonderful, and embarrassing baby stories originated.
