What is soul retrieval?
Harner: Anyone who's had a trauma, from a shamanic point of view, may have had some loss of their soul. By soul we mean the spiritual essence essential throughout one's life as we describe life in our culture, which is from conception or birth to the time of death. The techniques for healing soul loss are soul-retrieval techniques, and one of the classic shamanic methods is to go searching for that lost portion of the soul and restore it.
Until about 8 years ago, most people in the Western world felt that soul retrieval was a superstitious practice that had no validity, but things have turned. I must say that a major reason is the work of my colleague, Sandra Ingerman, the author of Soul Retrieval and Coming Home. During her shamanic practice in Santa Fe, NM, years ago, women who had had significant childhood abuse would mention in the course of the sessions that they had removed themselves psychically from the situation at the time of abuse. Sandra immediately recognized, as a practicing shaman, that the person's soul to some degree had left the body (if it had left completely, the person would have been dead), and therefore the logical thing was to retrieve the lost portion of the soul and bring it back. So she then started doing soul retrieval for these people who had had significant childhood traumas, and the results were astounding. Today, this work is an important part of shamanic healing practice in the West.
Indeed, if you ask a group of people, "How many of you feel you've lost part of your soul?" it's typical that everybody raises their hand. At some deep level, there is a natural awareness of this problem. By the way, even a minor trauma can result in some degree of soul loss and can be treated.
Another major technique in shamanic healing work is extraction. Extraction involves removing a spiritual intrusion. Just as there can be infections in ordinary reality, so there can be spiritual intrusions. We don't mean that "evil" spirits have entered. It's more like termites in a wooden house. If you've got termites in your house, you wouldn't say those termites are evil, you'd say, "I'd just like to get them out of the house." In this same way the shaman works to remove things that interfere with the health of the body, such as spiritual intrusions, and extract them. This is not done through journeying. It's done through working here in the Middle World in an altered state of consciousness. Hi crissy, many concepts I am still in the process of learning about myself and will take me many years to have a deep and full understanding of these things. I myself have had a soul retreivial done on me. Wasnt something I planned but something my body wanted. Every time we relinquish our power, we release our energy and we give away a peice of our soul. No one is taking your soul, but each time we go through a traumatic experince we can lose a little of our selfs in the process, this can be on many levels eg: on a emotional level, which involves the heart. We all have had a experinces that hurts us on a emotional level it can feel like our heart is breaking and we lose a peice of ourselfs in the process. The heart is also connected to our soul which is the very essence and core of our whole being. Through trama's we can loose a little of our self, of our being, of our very essence of whom we are, peices of this energy fragment out into the universe. Think of your self almost like a shattered mirror and a healers job in this process of a soul retreival is to connect all those fragmented peices back together to make you feel whole again. To re-infused all those fragmented peices into one solid ball of energy which is your soul. Soul loss is also seen as spiritual illness which can cause emotional and psycical disease. Shamans and healers help assist with the healing of ones spirit, by bringing back lost pecies of the soul from the spirit world, so it can reconnect. These traumas may be from this life or even from past lifes. By doing this a person feels more complete and whole which results in physical and emotional disease/illnesses to heal. What we dont understand on a concious level we often dont realise we do on a subcouncious level. When a Shaman/Healer does a soul retreival on you, your sub subconcious is able to draw back those lost peices of your soul. I hope I have explained this correctly and this helps you understand a little better. Blessings Misty |

chrissy, Shamaism is from what I beleive the oldest known spiritual discipline in the world. Shamanism and signs of its practice have being discovered in Austrialia, America, Sibera and parts of eurpoe, dating back to the dawn of history. Rock paintings, ancient carved stones and painted shells have being found in sites as far apart as Scotland, France, South and North America, the Arctic Circle and the Austrailian bush which have given us a glimpse into the life and practices of the shaman. I was just reading a small peice today on Hungarian Shamanism. Once upon a time when you choose a healing practice, you devoted your whole life to that one form of healing and the teachings where often passed down to you from a early age. Each Healing practice that has being around for a long time holds its sacred teachings. As there are many paths to God, there also is many paths to tap into universal life force energy and its use to help others through the techiques of Healing. I personally have not being taught anything on Soul Retreival through my Reiki Teachings. Today as many sacred teachings become more accessible to so many more people, people often learn more than one heaing art and incorperate many different techniques which they formulate together. Some even do this and give there own design of new age healing a new name and copy right it. So if this is a area that interests you, at a later stage you may choose to incorperate Soul Retrevail it into your Reiki when nessacary, or vice versa, incorperate you reiki into another form of healing :). Soul Retrevial should only be performed by someone that knows what they are doing The techiques and teachings for Shamanic Healing is different than Reiki. Enjoy Reiki 1. This level is very much about learning the history of Reiki, hand positions and self healing. It can take up to 3 months for the hand chakras to fully open, for others they may already be open before they receive the attunements. The more you practice the more you will learn about this healing art. :) Blessings misty |

Hi :) , that article mentioned about traumas causing loss of some of the soul but i just wanted to say that there are many ways that can happen and thought i would share an experience of mine in which afterwards i had to go through asoul retrieval. There are some beings out there which can feed on the actual energy of ones soul. Any way i was talking to one of these and at that point of time didnt believe what he was telling me (he was one of those beings). I was naive. So i thought i would go and test him out as i didnt believe it anyway, by willing some of my soul to him to feed upon (but didnt tell him what i was doing).. anyway suddenly he went into an ecstasy state when i did that. He also said that the energy had come from me so his reaction to what i had done secretly left no doubt in my mind about the truth of what he had said about how some can feed on souls and they find no greater enjoyment than doing that. (i was silly as a couple of others who knew him had actually had experiences with him and knew he could do that but i still had to go and test things out for myself). After that experience (quite a while after) during a healing session the need to reclaim this given away soul energy to him came up so we did a soul retrieval. I was very amazed at how much energy came back to me when I did that. It came rushing back, making me feel stronger. love sea-dove..... |
