If you want to use old fashoned emoticons....click on "font style" in the toolbar. There at the bottom (just above the "other font" notation) you see wingdings.

Keystroke, Shift&J=J
Keystroke Shift&K=K
Keystroke Shift&L=L
Click on wingdings, then hold your shift key and type j = J
You can color them, or enlarge them. There is a whole keyboard full of them, for your viewing pleasure. Just play around. Webdings are there too!
