 So.

Here we are again, celebrating (or not) another Earth Day.  I used to do all sorts of things, using this day to help welcome Spring and a new beginning to my lapsed-from-last-year's-Earth-Day efforts to stop being such a wasteful person.

I do all the usual stuff, recycle, re-use and reduce.  I buy my food mostly from local sources and grow what I can in my backyard.  I use clean and green products, don't smoke or litter, use cloth bags (most of which I made myself) when I shop, use mass transit (leaving my car in the driveway) whenever I can, hang my laundry outdoors, ride my bike, feed the birds...blah...blah...blah.  Whatever.  I still manage to have a huge carbon footprint, but truly am doing whatever I can to be as unwastefull, unpolluting and responsible as I can be.

Except for this past weekend, when I drove twelve hours, round trip, for a family member's baby shower.  Sorry, dear planet, it couldn't be avoided this time.
And, as if the two-day trip were not enough of an assault to the environment, I hit my first two insects of the season with my car on the way home.  One was an unidentifiable splat on the windshield, and the second was a sweet dragonfly that I am hoping managed to spin out of the way and avoid becoming one with my engine grill.  Reminds me of my existential joke for the day.  What did the Dalai Lamma say to the hotdog vendor?  Make me one with everything.  Lame, but I like it.

Anyway.  Have a nice Earth Day.  If you can't get outdoors to groove on nature for a few minutes, raise a frosty or steamy beverage in honor of our potential for making the world a better, safer, cleaner, healthier and more loving place.  Salut!!!!
