Gosh, we hate rules.  Unfortunately, past experience with a few members, who were unable to hold our site's safety and integrity in mind, have made guidelines necessary for the posting of links on our sites.

We have managed to keep them to just five guidelines.  Yes, they are intentionally vague and non-specific.  If they are too detailed, there will always be someone who needs to find the loopholes and test them.

If you are unsure about a link to post, please write to the e-mail address that was used to contact you when you joined.  If you have forgotten that address, it can be found in our Documents.

We have survived the loss of two previous sites, and are unwilling to risk losing this one.  I don't want to get too serious about this, but anyone who violates these guidelines risks becoming moderated or unjoined.

  1. You must make sure that the site allows linking.  Not all sites allow linking.  You can find this information in the site's Terms of Use or privacy policy or general guidelines.  Sometimes this can be hard to find.  Some sites will allow deep linking, which means that you can link to a particular page on that site.  Most, however, will allow linking only to their Main/Home page.  What they allow will be found in where ever their policies are stated.  If you cannot find the policy, just e-mail their webmaster, or e-mail me and I will be happy to do the research for you.
  2. Once you know that the site allows linking of some kind, you can share the link here only by using the URL for the actual link.  Using images from the site are a violation of copyright and intellectual property rights, and cannot be done.  Giving the actual URL is also a courtesy to our members because it gives them information that they may need in deciding if they want to chance clicking on a particular link.
  3. Links may not be made to any site that has any, remotely conceivable adult material.  We have no personal opinions about what people do in their own lives, only that they not share it on this particular site.  Adult material includes, but is not limited to, nudity or partial nudity (this includes photographic, animated or created images and/or words); adult language; adult subjects; profanity; violence which is real, narrated or imagined.  MSN has recently relaxed their rules about this, but we are not going to follow suit.  Several of our members are very careful to avoid using their real names because doing so would lead you to their personal or business sites that have some of the above-mentioned stuff on them.  As long as they remain anonymous, there isn't any problem with what they do in their personal lives.  It is none of our business, never has been, never will be.
  4. Any site to which you link may not have any of the links, mentioned in point #3, on their site.  I cannot imagine that we will run into problems on most of the sites to which our members may wish to link, which are probably major commercial companies, recipe sites, and the like.
  5. No links may be given for particular doctors, facilities, therapies or the like where there is a commercial benefit; not even if that person or place has given permission.  Like MSN, I am leaving this deliberately vague so that I don't have to debate this issue with the poster.  However, if you have some cool, wonderful or amazing something that you think would be helpful to our group, simply e-mail me and we can discuss it off-board.

Well, that is our beginning.  I'm a bit reluctant to have five rules about anything, but I think that they cover everything.  Please let me know what I've missed.
