I met with my regular ophth today and we did all the usual testing, and then discussed prisms. After more fooling around, I left with a prescription, but I'm confused about what I told him and I think that it is for my driving glasses, instead of the reading prescription that I wanted. I just thought of it, and will have to wait until tomorrow to check. Thank goodness that I didn't stop on the way home to get the glasses started. What a macaroon.
He also told me that my diplopia isn't typical for what it should be, something about the other muscles not responding properly. We are going to try the prisms and hope that works. He said that it is too soon to be considering additional surgery, which suits me just fine.
One of the things that I needed to discuss with him was something that I found in the copies of my medical records, which I finally received. I didn't get everything, but am fairly satisfied with what I did receive. Anyway, on one of the pathology reports, it concluded with a mention that a malignancy was found on the end of one of the tissue sections that were removed during last July's surgery. Hmmm, um, it's been ten months, and I guess that if I was having some kind of malignancy issue, it probably would have manifested in some way by this time, so I wasn't concerned about it. I figured that it was a simple transcription error and decided to wait until today's visit to mention it.
At first I forgot, and had to re-enter the building and haul myself back upstairs to ask someone about it. It was clear that they were more upset about it than I was, but I have had some time to get over being concerned about it. Frankly, my concern was that it needed to have an ammending document, clarifying the error so that I would not have any problems with my insurance somewhere down the line. I left my cellphone number and went off to visit with my daughter and grandson.
Within four hours I received a call from my surgeon who had them (whoever they actually are, I'm guessing the lab or something) re-examine the tissue samples and slides, confirming that it was a transcription error. They are preparing the ammending document and I will get it when I see him in a couple of weeks.
Whilst I had him on the phone, I told him that I would be asking for help with my facial pain when I see him. He told me that we would do that and he would send information to wherever it is they send you for chronic pain control. My daughter had done some research about how botox is being used for some kinds of nerve pain, but mine is apparently a different kind and the botulinum toxin isn't an option for me. So, it's going to be meds of some kind, for a long, long time. I am hoping that in addition to meds, there will be some type of pain management techniques that I will be able to use as well.
I did get to see my grandson, my little fox, and we played with the new puzzles that I brought him. Man, he just cracks me up. In addition to his usual winning ways, he has a new haircut. I knew that it was going to be short because his mom told me that he kept squirming and she kept making cutting mistakes and had to keep trying to even things out. Oh...my...goodness. If toddlers have gangs, he will fit right in because he is practically shaved clean. It was hard to tell, with all the long hair that he had, but his head is such a cute shape. Now, however, it is easy to tell. I am such a fool for that little guy and I can hardly wait until the new baby comes in September, and by that time, I should have all of this pain under control and really be able to enjoy my time with them.
Well, that's all I have to say, and I'm stickin' to it. How are you guys doing? My summer plans are to attend a HSUS conference, have foot surgery, make baby presents for the gazillion babies (not much of an exageration) that are going to be born into our family in the next six months, go to Florida to visit Jeanie for a week or so, help give a couple of workshops and spend lots of time with my family, especially as the time for the new baby draws near. Oh, and take lots of naps.
