Zonisamide - Zonegran
I took this medication about 5 yrs. ago, and don't remember the particular information. I am only able to remember my results and side effects.

Please include:

When did you begin taking this med? Don't remember.
What was your beginning dosage (amount and number of times a day)? Ditto
How was your dosage increased, and to what levels? Ditto
How has this med helped/benefited you (please be specific)? Very good result to begin with. So good that my Neuro-ophthal. had me speak to a group of doctors with the pharm. reps there to tell them how good it was. I also lost weight with it, about 20 lbs., which for me was a plus. My symptoms were greatly reduced and I only had an occasional shimmer.
What side effects are you having/did you have (please be specific)? It slowly began to breakthrough, and then the zombie effect kicked in as I upped the dosage. Soon became intolerable.
How long have you/did you take this med? Don't remember.
If you have stopped taking this med, why did you stop? Zomie effect
Your thoughts about your experience with this med. It was great while it lasted, and I was very sad when my symptoms started up again. I haven't tried it again, but mainly because I'm not taking any medication any more, at least not for the time being! That's a definite answer isn't it?

  1. Aug. '06
  2. 50mg/day
  3. Added 50mg every two weeks.
  4. I don't remember if it helped much as I only made it to about 100mg 2/day.  (see below)
  5. Ringing/buzzing in my ears; very couldy/foggy thinking....I just couldn't follow things/logic; couldn't figure out how to spell words that I KNEW how to spell; pins & needles feelings in my feet and hands sometimes; tip of my nose would feel numb at times; dry nose; worst of all - - - incredible anxiety...possibly some depression (but never the "I don't want to get out of bed" kind of feeling)!  I was crying at work and VERY worried about a lot of things.
  6. I dosed back off in October '06 and IMMEDIATELY felt back to myself.
  7. See #5
  8. It just could deal with the side effects that hit me.  It may work for others.  Our chemistry is different!
