When my SOM symptoms began: April 2007
When diagnosed: May 2008

Type of doctor: Neuro-ophthalmologist

SOM eye - Right or Left: Right

My symptoms: Double vision, shimmers, eye muscle fatigue

Symptom triggers, if any: The 'bouts' have occurred in spring and late summer, so I thought it was allergy related, but now I'm not sure. I also thought it was stress related because of the time of my first occurrence, but it's bothered me in August during vacation... All that said - don't have a clue.

Wear glasses? What type/kind: Yes, just prescription glasses and contact lenses.

Is SOM eye weaker or stronger than "good" eye?: It is the stronger eye.

Treatments for SOM: Prescription meds: Yes or No: Yes
Med name, dosage, how long, results 1. Timolol Maleate, one drop a day, since May 2008, not noticeable

Herbs. Legal only. List all: No. Had not thought of that.

Accupuncture. Type: No. Had not thought of that.

Massage. Type: Occasionally, but not because of SOM.

Chiropractic. Method/type: No.

Surgery. Type: My doctor didn't recommend it.

Other conditions I have: Allergies
Symptoms. How long. 1. While getting an MRI for a diagnosis, I discovered (not surprisingly) that my sinuses were extremely congested. An allergy test determined I was allergic to all pollens (April to Sept.), dust, cats and dogs.

Possible connection(s) to SOM: I still believe the pressure and fatigue caused my allergies on my sinuses could incite SOM. But I'm not a doctor or researcher -- just my little brain thinks that.

Current SOM status: Currently (Aug.) in a bout for the last two weeks. I expect to last about another week. It hasn't gotten much worse or better since the last time.

Current age: 45
Gender: male

Additional thoughts: I've always been reasonably fit. I continue to play hockey, tennis, squash, run, downhill ski and snowboard, although most badly. I did find that exercise helps with SOM.

How I found this support group: Google.

Have you shared this group/site with your doctor/doctors?: Not yet, but I will.
