Can anyone suggests how I can go about getting my Metis status?

I have Native ancestry that is impossible for me to trace, so I haven't any proof of my being Native.

 

I looked into the Metis, because my Great-Grandfather was from Ottawa. I found some wonderful websites. I just typed "Metis" into the MSN Search Engine, and found lots of info. You will find exactly what you need. You can always contact them, and inquire, as well. They can steer you in the direction you need to be in!

I know for our family, my cousin went to the Mormons as they have info, believe it or not on everybody. Through thier records we were able to start and complete our family history. Although we were raised Catholic, the priests were of no help at all, actually keeping it more of a secret from us. I would try the mormons.

some info on mormon web site geneology. i was born in oklahoma raised mormon family. mother's name marshall cherakee i am from the twisted hair clan 7th tribe. but that's all i have sometimes just have to live with the belief we will join together native american no matter were we came from. to my friends and family many prayers to find family and connection!
