Full blood vs half breed

How many times have you heard a person claiming to be full blood native putting down someone who is of mixed blood? How can one judge another by who their ancestor slept with? This was not a choice given to us. I am also of mixed blood but I am proud and honor each of my ancestors. What kind of a person would I be to turn my back on my ancestors?

It breaks my heart to hear this going on and it reminds me of the KKK and the Skinheads and all the other radically racial groups. What is the difference? Think about all the harm that has come to the Native American community as well as other minority groups because of these factions.

What is accomplished by segregating the full bloods and mixed bloods? Division of races, anger, resentment... Interesting! I can't find unity there. I can't find any good that comes from that.

A small number of us are truly full blood and I suspect that some of those that holler the loudest about it are not truly full blood. What matters the most is what is in the heart. Why do we judge by skin color or blood? I have known many full blood natives that had black hearts and would cheat you out of anything they could. Then again, I have known many that didn't claim any native blood and had a good native heart and walked the good path.

So...when it comes to selecting my friends, I will make my decision by what is in the heart and by the strength of their words, not by their skin color or their blood. And I will be a richer person for it....richer in friends.
