Hmmmmmmmmm...where do I begin...I'm such an odd duck when it comes to spirituality. I was brought up a Catholic and my family became Jehovah's Witnesses when I was about 12 years old. I argued with everyone regarding God and spiritual matters. Suffice it to say, I no longer attend mass or meetings at either church. Yet I am a very spiritual person.
I would have to say that my spirituality probably follows along the lines of many Native Americans. I confess I'm no expert and I am not a Native American but I believe that we need to respect all aspects of life not just one supreme creator. I believe that if one respects all life and attempts to live in harmony with it, the world would be a much better place.
I probably feel more strongly about this when I am with animals. I believe that all animals are capable of reasoning and communication. It is a shame that we as humans think we are so superior to them when there is so much they can teach us. I believe by communicating with animals that not only do we benefit but the animal benefits too. Most people think I'm crazy when I talk to wildlife or treat my dog like she is human. But they all respond to me in their own way. I wonder how wonderful the world would be if we communicated with the animals and respected them as intelligent beings.
I believe in having a positive outlook on life. I have seen too many people allow their pessimistic side to eat away at their souls. They eventually become bitter and hard. It is important to me to appreciate the small things in life - the song of bird, the patter of raindrops, a blushing sunset or water tickling my ankles. And to not allow the bad experiences in my life to make me bitter. As existentialist philosopher, Friedrich Neitzsche wrote, "What does not destroy me makes me stronger." Our bad experiences probably shape us more profoundly than the good ones if we only allow them. I would like to think I am one of those people that learns from my experiences and becomes a better person because of it.
Btw, my nickname is Happy Full Moon in Spanish. I thought it fitting because I am certainly full (full-figured that is), generally happy and well-rounded both physically and intellectually. Plus I am more of a night creature.
I look forward to getting to know more of you better.
