A Kiowa story from long ago, told to children around the camp fire.

In long ago times, it has been said that the bob tailed cat had a long tail. one day, the old man of the shadows who is called the trickster decided to play a trick on the cat. the trickster changed himself into a hollow tree. he created a commotion so the the cat hid inside the hollow tree. he had made a knothole behind the cat and the cat's tail hung out.
a Kiowa hunter happened to be passing by and saw the fine fur of the cat's tail hanging out the knothole. it was so beautiful he chopped it off to decorate his bow case. you can see this story is true because even today the cat has no tail and the Kiowa still have fur on their bow cases.
