The Aftermath
by
Gloria J. Acord
Teardrops have fallen
Smoke is clearing
Ashes sifted through
And slowly lifeforces
Are stirring slightly
Hope dances on the horizon
But it sparkles in the distance
As hearts and minds
Move toward the glimmer
Promising sweet relief
From the depths of shock
And sadness
Recapturing the zest
Which faded with the force
Of untrue actions
Laying low the spirits of many
In the waste lack of compassion
For those left in the aftermath
Of the betrayed
Under the guise of friendship
Torn asunder with the departure
Of all that is never done in love
But in the hearts which hurt
And cramp within
The broken confines of the human form
Stirring in the ashes
Is a sadness for those
Who will never know the warmth
Of a friends love wrapping
Around their spirits and soothing
All that befalls and wounds
As life takes its tolls with those
Who know not how to love.
But those laid so low
Will still bear the pain
Of hurting for the betrayers
Who live in the coldness
Barren of knowledge
Which makes the sun shine bright
And warms the hearts
Of those who still see hope
In all things and reap the rewards
Given because there is no condemnation
In Love.
