Hello Dear family, everyone must be busy as me..LOL. Hubby has been making outdoor potting containers for veggies. He is disabled so I do the leg work.. boy am I pooped..LOL.
We are having fun and he is actually doing physical work so that is great.
We are thinking of putting in some stone or something to have a deck type thingie for our outdoor smoker...  in the finished process.. it's supposed to hold a smoker thingie, sitting arrangement.. oh, shucks! ya know what I mean, don't ya?? LOL.
Anywho, we smoked chicken and a pork roast last weekend... the pork was delicious.  loves to cook... LOL.  While that was 'smokin', we had stakes. I'll not tell you how those first couple of pieces of chicken sort of caught fire..hehehehe.. the inner section after the charcoaled skin was really good and tender.. dang! 'don't know how the font changed... but please bare with me..LOL.
Rhubarb is plentiful, so I made a rhubarb custard dish, minus the pie crust and we love it. Also made my first rhubabrb strawberry pie but was disappointed in it not setting up. I found recipes where strawberry jello is used and wonder if any of you have a problem with this.
Our first grandbaby will be a year old soon... so hard to beleive.. and we enjoy this wonderful little tyke. What a sweet creation! God/Creator be thanked and what a blessing! We also have a grandaughter who is 4 from daughter'-in-law's previous marriage and she is just as wonderful and full of amazement. I love having little ones near. They are a joy!! .. each a little individual and filled with God/Creators work of art. Each gives me hope of a brighter tomorrow. And grandma's arms are always ready for a hug.
Our youngest grandbaby sure loves her grandpa... geesh! you'd of thought she'd be wild over granma, wouldn't ya? But, Lordy-loo! this youngun' crawls to the door just 'cause it's faster than walking and wants outside when grandpa is out there and she knows where he is... I'm jealous...LOL.
We had those wonderful morels in plenty and dried some and they are so good in a pot roast or just cooked in butter...yum. So it has been a very first month of spring of plenty. The spring flowers are blooming, my water ponds are a joy and always, a part of earth in rocks surround me, aah! such wonder..
My prayers and thoughts are for all in that your hopes and dreams are plenty and that all be surrounded in God/Creators love and abundance.
Inner peace and light, Real

Hi Real,

It sure sounds like you had a great time!  My mouth watered when I read about the Morels..lol  I am glad with the mixed up weather that they did come up there in abundance.  I still haven't found anyone brave enough to hunt mushrooms to eat here.  lol  They don't know what they are missing. lol

I have eaten rhubarb pies made with jello and they were fine, so maybe the next time you try it will work better?  I have always thought it amazing that some cooks can use things and they work fine, but if I try it or someone else I know there is often a problem. lol It took me years to find a pie crust recipe to fix that actually worked for me. lol

It sounds like you are sure enjoying those babies.  I sure miss mine, but they are not babies anymore.  My first granddaughter is now 16.. where did the years go? lol  They sure have a way of working themselves into your heart though don't they?

Thanks for sharing your Spring and weekend with us.  It sounds like alot of fun and yummy too..lol

Take care and enjoy those babies while they are small, because they sure grow fast. lol

Love ya,
Winds

Dear Real,

Wow!  What a fantastic note!  I wanted it to go on and on.. My mouth is watering for your cookin though... my mom used to make a great strawberry/rhubarb pie.. I had forgotten it until I was reading you note.

I am so happy for you and your hubby... to be enjoying your grandchildren.. and I'll bet you do have your arms ready for those hugs.. I just got to see my newest great nephew a week ago for the first time.. he is three months old now.. oh.. it is heavenly to kiss the head of a baby.. a gift from our Creator for sure.  I think of you often and have wondered how your little baby grand daughter has been growing.. and how much fun it is to have her come and visit you..  You and all grandparents are truly blessed for sure.

Real, what are morels? lol.. I have never heard that word that I can remember..morals, only you can't cook them..rofl... Are they a spice?  hmmmm.. sounds like they are very good though.

Big hugs to you.. and I agree with acorn, I also feel like I have known you forever..

Love, Light, Joy & Peace be always with you,
angl/Betty

Dear Betty, So good to get back in here and enjoy good family and friends. I feel I've been gone for ages..LOL.
I want to make another rhubarb strawbery pie and try that jello. I ercks me that it didn't set...hehehehehe.
We enjoy our babies and they sure do grow fast. They truly are a blessing.
Morels are like a mushroom and are found under dead trees...usually on the north side.. so hubby says... I think..hehehehe.  I can't remember, dah! but we used to go and look for them with hubby's dad and he always found those we missed...LOL.  They can be an inch up to five inches depending on the spring. Our spring was very wet from rain and had warm days and nights so my little neck of the woods had zillions of them. They are worth a lot in the spring in food stores if you can find them. They are good coated and fried, or just cooked in butter...yum.. with a little pepper or wonderful in a pot roast and make the best dark gravy from the juices. I am drulling just thinking of gravy and mashed potatoes...LOL.  They look sort of spongy, are wider at the base and taper to a point at the top. We soak them in salt water to get the bugs out cause those little fellars like them too...LOL. Rinse them off and I like to slice mine length wise to double check for bad spots and those little fellars. Drain them and cook them how ever one likes them. They can be frozen in bags or dried and used whenever you have the hankering. Yum-yum.
I feel I have know you too. Always so good to talk with you.
Love, light, ((((((((HUGS)))))))))))), inner peace, Real

Now that brings all kinds of creepy crawly thoughts to mind... eeek! That is too bad. Oh say, wonder if I can send you some dried ones????  Now there's a thought.
Thanks for the pic. B-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l-l, aren't they? Amazing how just the looks of them makes a person drool... my mouth is watering..LOL.

I finally got to all the great email at 12:42 am, so just after midnight!!  I had to get up, redo bandaids on the toe that I somehow pulled off the entire top of the nail, and am just frustrated that I seem to know how to injure myself more than cure!!

I have lived in AZ tooooo long, so now when it is 30-50% humidity my body sweats contanstantly  YUCK.  I can not make it realize that the humidity is low, but body says, what a joke!!

Tomorrow, oh really today, have to go get my weekly shot for MS, physical from my primary care doctor, drive about 35 miles to an education seminar, and get home safely.  Thursday, hope to make it to the Ice Cream social being held by VOICE, a wonderful group for all of us with disablities.  But, it is about 45 miles, one way, so 90 overall.

Sorry, talking too much about me.  The discussion about outdoor cooking, grandkids, and the joy of summer, makes me feel happy for all of you!!

Have a wonderful summer everybody

'''pant...pant'''... sure is HOT out here!! ..can't see for the sweat running down into my eyes..... can't blame no one for not being out in this heat. Nor do I call upon that dear 'ole John-boy to mow the lawn..LOL. Give me a second to blink my eyes and I'll get to the porch.

Hi All, can you beleive this heat wave????  The north pole sure looks inviting..LOL. Unless it starts to melt..LOL. Just kidding!
Makes ya wonder, now how the dickuns' did our ancestors survive this heat??? Some one recently asked how our farm animals are faring. Well, all we have now are our two donkeys. A neighbor rents our pasture and I know there is plenty of water for his cattle... geee! .. I feel so terrible I no longer have to look after animals  .hehe.he ..heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.heeee.. sorry, a moment of hysteria..
Like I say, must be the heat.  and old age..LOL.
Sending love and light, (((()()HUGS()()))), inner peace, Real

Busy is only trying to dry off, clean out your eyes, especially put clean water on your face, and then almost pass out at McDonald's counter cause you can not remember why you are even there

Then, trying to remember that you have to get your shot, got to your Chiro since he is taking Friday off to go to Flagstaff hoping it will be much cooler than Scottsdale, getting your pictures developed from your trip to your Mom's memorial service, and then after getting home, remembering to run back to Walgreens to pick up drug you got your dentist to call in for you, and then..............

what is the topic?

oh yeah, I am Marilou, msmari, Stofer-Fallis, and 50 except in MN where I am 5

Dear Real, MsMari and all,

I just haven't been able to drag myself out on the front porch this summer yet, but it is beginning to feel like I might be able to make it more.  Tonight when I went out to water the tomatoes, the air felt a little lighter, so maybe.. just maybe, the hot front (too hot for a heat front lol) is going to move on out further into the Atlantic.  (I hope I hope. lol)

I see I missed a couple of conversations here on the porch before today..lol  I think I might have seen them before and thought I would make it back in time to discuss them, but hmmm I forgot..lol

I sure hope it is cooler in Flagstaff MsMari, when I went through Arizona as a teen they told me that Flagstaff then was noted for being the hottest place in the summer and the coldest in the winter.  It looks like it has changed a bit since that time in the mid 60s. lol  That was when Route 66 was the best way to cross the country.  You sound like me with forgetting the reason for being someplace and having to rethink about it. lol  I do that all of the time anymore and it is so unsettling.

Real,  I just saw where you thought maybe you could mail me some morels..lol   yummy..lol  Did you ever get the rhubarb strawberry pie to turn out?  They are delicious.  Some of my old friends used to make them when our kids were all small, but I have not even seen anyone have rhubarb pie for quite awhile.  And I am sure not going to crank up the oven in this weather..lol

Oh last night when I went out to water there were two beautiful dragonflies around the tomato with a beautiful light blue and white bands on the ends of their wings.  I find it amazing here that there are so many different colors of dragonflies.  I only remember seeing one kind until I moved here.  They are beautiful.

Love to all,
Winds

Hi All, maybe now that the days and nights are getting more bearable we can all sit on Winds' front porch more often. It is almost cold here in my little neck of the woods. The nights are 'down' into the 50's and I end up shutting that window down a little further each night...hehehehe. It is an almost brrrrr...... situation..hehehhee.
I luv it I luv it...LOL. Good Golly! Three months till Christmas. Well okay, make that 3 months and 22 days (hold on... need to take my socks off and count them toes too). Does time seem faster to all of you, or just me?  wanna make any bets on when that first snow fall will be...hehehehe.
Love and light, inner peace to all, all are in my thoughts and prayers... Real

Seeing what I wrote July 12, that day turned out very stange and dangerous!  I drove home, and the strong storm hit. Scottsdale Rd becomes a river, all the power was out, and McKellips Rd, flooded out also.  There are 2 washes to drive through, but I wanted to get home!!  The village I live in was flooded out also, and no power!  Dale and I spent the night looking at TV, we have a B&W, battery powered.   The power taken away 8:15pm and came back 6:30am.

I did get to find out that my KIA Sedona, is my disablity vehicle and my Monsoon season boat!!

Monsoon season is getting a little quieter, tho storms last night and John may be bringing some wind and rain soon.

Hopefully everyones fall will be very nice.  We have no children, and we are great aunt and uncle 8 times through Dale's family.  We never get to see those kids.

bye for now

Hi everyone,

Good to see you on the porch Real and MsMari.  It is finally cooler here too, but the humidity keeps creeping back in and right now after Tropical Storm Ernesto came through with winds 50 - 60 mph and sometimes higher and so much rain that the whole inside of the house smelled moldy.. (old house you know..lol) from the wind whipping under over and around it, so we still have to use the air conditioners to dry things out in here.   I love it though that we can have the windows open more now.  We lost our power on Friday while Ernesto was going through until about 7:30 that night.  It was neat that the power came on at that time, because our friends who braved the weather and went to get their groceries and ours brought us pizzas after we had talked to them and asked them to bring us something to eat since we could not cook and we did have power when they came to deliver everything they had gotten for us.. so we did get to eat with the power on and also had the microwave to heat the pizzas. lol  This time we got more of the rain at one time than we did when hurricane Isabel hit, but the winds didn't last as long.. so that is good.  Usually the water does not stand too deep here, because we are uphill from the river and have a natural water flow in that direction, but Friday, the water pooled at the end of the ramp and when I had to go down to get gas cans to fill the generator, I had to wade in the murky muddy water up past my ankles.    It sure was cold. lol  Anyway we made it through it and enjoyed a nice clear and very cool day yesterday.  I love how clear the skies and the air is after a hurricane or tropical storm.. the rain and storms that come with them clean out the atmosphere it seems for at least a day or two.

I am looking forward to our first outing in over 6 weeks soon.  I will be like a child getting to go to a new place. lol

I agree that time flies anymore.. or maybe I just miss days? lol  I am looking forward to Fall and the warmth of the sun that is not hot, but warming when it touches you.  I hope all of you are doing well and looking forward to all that Fall brings.  Now maybe I can start walking regularly and get myself into better shape again.  I love to walk, but not in the kind of heat we had this past summer.  lol

Hope to see you all again soon here.. I will try to make it more often now that I can type with out wiping the perspiration out of my eyes and off my hands..lol  Take care and enjoy the day.. love and hugs to you all.

Love,
Winds
