Evening folks,

Badger and I were just discussing what a sigil/symbol/logo for Betwixt would be. So now I'm curious as to what you might think ... pent, triskele (and other triads), circle, quad, spiral, cross, universal? The problem with enjoying diversity is that some times its kind of hard to decide on something, lol

Hiya,
This appears to be very similar to a symbol from the movie "The Dark Crystal"

Sasquatch...I like this too, it's simple and clean. The different width lines add an interesting perspective. The spiral is really nice, looks like jade?  What are you using to draw this?

Stained glass features aren't really necessary since it is a symbol not stained glass anyway, I was just trying to show how it would have to be done, since I couldn't cut a spiral like that. But that would be nice if I could get a jade piece overlay like that!

Red, I like the lettering too. It's really coming along well!

I am working on this in POV-Ray, and the spiral, indeed, uses the stock POV-Ray "Jade" pigment (one of my favorites of their built-in textures), with a metallic finish.

I will work on sticking pieces of colored glass in there and see which one looks better...I had actually just been working on a bunch of stained glass stuff, so this fit right into that.

Okay... I did some digging this morning. Iliachenva'ar is not far off, while this is the symbol used in the movie Dark Crystal  ...

I dug further into the artist behind Dark Crystal, Brian Froud...  He in turn has a drawing of a better and more elaborate version of my triangle & spiral, its not the same but it may be too close for comfort since I know Froud is copyrighted material.

I have no idea if you can copyright a triangle, circle, spiral combination so that no one else can use them... I would really hope not or else all future geometry classes are in dire trouble, lol Anyways, I'm not sure if I can go ahead with my piece because of the similarity to Froud's art (even though the similarity is purely coincidental) So having said that my logo is discontinued until further notice.

Sasquatch... I would be thrilled if you could cook up something more to represent Betwixt, I love the way the POV-Ray looks ... and I really love that spiral!

Well back to the drawing board!

Red

I looked up Brian Froud and couldn't find any symbols. Where were you looking? He seems to be much more into the realistic, faery, goblin drawings. I doubt that a symbol could be protected unless it was copyed exactly anyway. But who knows these days. It's be hard to come up with something that doesn't have some pattern of geometric shape in it!

Alright...here's something I've played around with a little at work (in Windows Paint...a POV-Ray version would definitely look nicer) based on a UK crop circle pattern...I know it looks bad here, but you get the general idea...

How about something like this?

The bottom part of the outer circle represents the Sea, the upper part represents the Sky, three vesicas form a triangle in the middle that is also part of the Flower of Life.  The colors in the middle are the three primary colors of light, merging at the vesicas to create the secondary colors.  And, of course, the Jade Spiral.  ;)

I really like that one too! Are you maybe open for tinkering on it? If so... how about having the outer ring a duality instead of a triad .. the sea & sky can be more yin/yang.I like the idea of the flower of life, something I hadn't thought of . Is there the option of using more jewel like colours with the POV-Ray?

All right, how about something more like this:

More of a YinYang type thing going on with the Sea and Sky in the outer circle, the coloring in the inner circle/flower of life meant to represent Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, Amber, Apatite, and Amethyst.

VERY Nice!  I like the yin / yang much better... it balances it nicely. I'm curious if in the process ... have you tried the spiral on the inside of the outer ring (instead of overlapping them)? I like the new colours as well, although they are not much brighter they are richer and more glass-like imo. If your done with this one, can I please have a blank one (without font)? With your permission, I'd love to add it to my Betwixt collection for future use. Thank you very much Sasquatch for the time you've put into this, I really appreciate it. You are most definitely welcome to tinker more should you be moved to do so, I love seeing what you cook up with that POV-Ray program!

Blessings,

Here is one with the spiral starting inside the inner circle:

If you like this one better, I will create a few different versions...text, no text, just the outline, maybe a different size and upload them to the gallery...and you can do whatever you want with them from there.  Note that I will also be adding a much higher-resolution version in the photo-gallery on my web site http://www.jceddy.com ... currently the main website is accessible at index_old.html as there is another project I'm working on that is taking up the main index page.

Alright...I uploaded a few versions of this under the Pictures section under "Sasquatch Pics 'n Geometry".

Also a high-resolution version at jceddy.com.
