Ok well not exactly polka dots but we just got out of the shower and Manu has two red feathers on his neck.  I only saw them because he was wet and the underneath feathers were showing.  I freaked out at first and thought he was bleeding and then upon further inspection was pleasantly surprised to find two partial red feathers on Manus neck.  I have heard of some cags having random red feathers but never thought I would have one.

Phoebe has had about 5 red neck feathers and a splattering of them on her legs--they were there when I got her at 11 years and her first mom said they started coming in when she was maybe 7-8 years old.  I've recently seen that she had one bright red one on her back, hidden by the wing but she was flapping and I noticed it.  I've been looking at her today, trying to find her red neck feathers, and they are all gone!  I'll be curious to see if they come back in, or if they have been gradually disappearing.  I've recently seen only one, not several around her neck like she had before.  I've read several theories, but have never seen anything definitive on why some greys have these.

Was so funny--while I was looking at her and trying to find her red feather, I was asking her where it went and looking all over the floor and cage bottom.  She was leaning way over, looking with me, and she seemed so serious about the whole thing.

I just saw this post - brought to memory Dixie.  She was the 57-58 yr. old CAG that passed over the Rainbow bridge this year....She had stray red feathers since she was a young'un.  I wonder if it has anything to do with wild-caught?  Maybe it's bred out of the species after a few generations?  Curiouser and curiouser.
I got a "visual" on Phoebe looking down for the feather and had to laugh.  Smee does the same thing....Acts like she's reading the paper, etc.  They're so smart....

Rosco is 1&1/2 yrs old and he has red feathers on his chest, back and neck and on top of his head in the center of his little grey feathers are red dots .The ones on his back are light grey mixed woth a spray of breathtaking bright red.   I don't think anyone could steal him because my pictures can identify him .

I've lost the web site where the CAG's in Africa had not only red feathers in sprinklings, but were mostly red all over...... At the time there were many breeders breeding those to retain this particular strain........ I have two that have smidgens of red feathers all over and I bought my female youngster for that very reason....Too2

As I've probably mentioned before, Boo came to me with red feathers scattered across her chest.  Her first owner said that they weren't there until feathers grew back from her first feather-plucking bout.  I'm waiting to see whether they reappear after her next molt.  Perhaps this is a recessive gene in all grays.
