Hello guys
I'm considering buying an ekkie nearest months. I would like to know firstly which cage DomeTop or PlayTop is better for MALE. I've heard females tends to be agressive in dome's, is it truth?
Advice me please.
I have some examples on my webshoot's album...
Thank you for help

I've never heard anywhere that a dome-topped cage can cause aggression in any bird.  I, personally, prefer the dome top because it seems to provide more space for toys and swings and such but doesn't put the bird above my eye level.  Perhaps someone else knows the answer to your question.

Hi. I have never heard of the cage style causing aggressiveness, either. Female ekkies get aggressive, I think, because they are trying to protect their nest and eggs. Mine hasn't laid eggs yet but does go thru the hormones and gets really cranky. I have always heard that male ekkies are much calmer than females.
We do have a dome top macaw cage for Diana, but I really doubt that's why she gets cranky. She's fine outside the hormone season.
Let us see pics when you get your bird. We love pics.

I have never heard that cage style can cause agressiveness, either.  I have a male ekkie in a dome top, and he loves it.  If you're going to have a playstand separate from the cage then you don't need a playstand on top of it.  Or at least that's my theory.  Keep in mind that every bird is an individual, and you can find some cranky male ekkies too.  My little guy's pretty laid back, but he can get full of himself at times.

It's not whether it's a dome top or not, it's the height of the cage. If you're 5'2" and put a bird in a 6" playtop, you could still have troubles. Some, but not all, birds can get aggressive if their head is higher than their persons. I've heard it said lately that that's all BS but I've seen it happen more than once. The most important bird in the pecking order gets the highest perch, so it stands to reason that if you are part of the flock and your bird is perched higher that you, then you must be low man on the totum pole. The larger the bird, the more likely it is to happen. Another thing about playtops is that a lot of them come with a tray for the top as well as under the grate. I've never had a bird of any size that liked to have it's head covered that way. I put a too in one of those and she spent the better part of 2 days on the floor of her cage looking up at that 'thing'. Slow learner that I was I finally figured out the problem and took the top tray out. She was fine after that and I've never used one since. Most of mine are dome tops and I get them because they have a lot more room in them. The only two that are taller than I am, are Truffles and Savannahs (I'm 5'9") and I get around that by not putting a perch up that high. They can still climb around up there but to come out, they must come down to my level. All playgrounds except for Truffles are lower than my head and I plan to have hers cut down. Of the 9 birds I have 6 are large and 3 of those are VERY large, so I tend to go with what I know has worked for me in the past. I TRY to keep at least a little control. Peggy

I can see one problem with the Florenz. It has such a lot of space above the door opening that you may not be able to reach the bird if he's up on the top. Beautiful cage, though.
The Gallizi with the opening top and perch looks like it would be great. Dome top for more room inside but the top opens and has a perch for those times you want to let him play on top.
Check the paint to be sure it is lead and zinc free, plus check bar spacing. No more than 1 inch spaces so he can't get his head wedged between the bars. A latch on every door is a good idea so that if he is an escape artist you won't have to padlock the doors. (None of my birds have ever gotten out of our very simple cages, but others' birds escape daily.)
I don't know what a peek-a-boo play is unless it is the brand name of a playpen for birds in your country.

Oops, I meant if he's up in the top. I had a cage once with a low door but lots of space above it and could not get to the bird if she was way up high inside. She knew it, too, and would go up there to get away from me.

Ohhh, now I understand.  You hide behind a towel or a piece of furniture. Peek around it and say "Peek-a-boo" in an excited happy voice. After a while, some birds will begin saying it to you.
Mine say Peek-a-boo, especially my ekkie.
I have a recording of her saying it in my pc, I think. If I can find it I will attach it.

I found it. Now, if I have room in my passport it will attach. This is Diana ekkie, a 9 year old Vosmaeri female.
The bird in the background whistling is my African grey.

I just realized that many cages are Gallizzis. Must be the brand name. This is the one I meant that I would buy.
Beautiful cage and a good choice for my needs since the top opens up if needed.
I can't be sure, from the picture, if it has two or three bowls. I always use 4 bowls. Dry pellets, water, seed mix and fresh veggies, each in a separate bowl. I have many extra bowls, too, so that here is always a clean bowl handy if a bird makes a mess of one. We can buy bowls here in the US that have an acrylic hanger that attaches to the cage so we can hang them wherever we need an extra bowl.

That's a great cage. It looks alot like Savannah and Truffles, except the top on theirs doesn't open.
Annie, I loved the recording of Dianas voice. She has a sweet little girls voice like Truffles.   Peggy
