unbelievable....this is what is becoming of the medical profession due to the "crackdown" on prescribing narcotics for pain patients: for those of you who have been so kind as to help me through this soap opera of the past few days, some of you suggested contacting my rheumatologist to see if she would write scripts for pain meds now. guess what? SHE NO LONGER WRITES ANY TRIPLICATE PRESCRIPTIONS. i almost fell off the chair. granted i was sitting here researching physiatrists and finding some here where i live, trying to see if they accept my insurance, so i am well on the path of moving forward with finding better chronic pain management....but it DID shock me. the anesthesiologist who suggested the pain med i am to me four years ago no longer does anything but give injections now. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE WORLD? the pendulum swings AWAY from the wellbeing of those with pain, legitimate pain. sheeeesh. amazing.

Somehow I'm not surprised. For one thing, that's where the money is; they don't get any money for writing prescriptions. For another, it's writing narcotic prescriptions that gets them in trouble with the DEA. When they tell me they want to stick needles in my spine, I say "I'll do it after YOU have it done to yourself first!" Not one has taken me up on it, though. Can't say I'm surprised. : )

HA! cyndy you make me laugh.....i will have to remember that line and remember to USE IT when the time comes. actually i had to undergo "nerve root injections" with CAT scan, to try to see if there was one distinct level in my cervical spine that is worse than all the others.....the spine surgeon said immediately when he saw my MRIs that i needed a fusion procedure. but when i didn't show any marvelous reaction to the THREE, count 'em, THREE injections , he decided that a fusion procedure would most likely just cause me more pain in the end. but i tell you what, let's you and me grab the needles away from the docs and inject THEIR spines!!! lol

You're in NY, right?  NY state is especially bad about that.  I don't know why.  But doctors in NY state just won't write for narcotics to manage pain.  They're just afraid to.  Aparently the DEA has them buffaloed.  It's just sad.  Instead of fighting for their rights as doctors to do the right thing for thier patients. I remember I couldn't get pain meds when I was in New York and New Jersey.  And I believe it's the reason I have chronic pain now.  I believe if they had taken my pain seriously and sent me for an MRI and treated my pain when I complained about it, I would be free of pain now.  But they didn't.  So the pain became entranched.  Now I  live with it.

You're in my prayers, hon.  I hope you can get some relief right away.  If you have to travel out of state to see a doctor, don't hesitate.  It might be worth it.

Hugs and lots of love,

Dan

It's a shame so many doctors are shaking in their boots when it comes to writing out prescriptions for narcotics.  Ya think they would want to help their patients reduce their pain levels....but, nope, they bow down to the DEA and just don't write them out.  They're scared...sadly!

I'm grateful that I have a wonderful pain management doctor...and I live in NJ, Dan...lol.  Guess I've been fortunate....and he's never been afraid to increase my narcotics at all.  He actually writes two scripts for narcotics for me...every 3 weeks.  He will not do any more injections...none helped my pain levels, so he feels it's just not worth it to do them.    Before I went to the pain doc, I was going to my rheumy and he was writing out scripts for me...with no problems.  He even offered to write out Oxycontin for me....that was before I started on them with the pain doc.  So guess I 'hit' the right doctors here!

Hang in there, Kim...and hope you will find a doctor that is willing to help you....and write out the prescriptions that you need to get your pain levels down.

Take care...and hope you find "Dr. Right"....soon!
