I have had chronic pain for about 7 years. It all started when I was a FireFighter Paramedic when I contracted Lyme Disease. I was given 30 days of an antibiotic and then told I was cured. Well not knowing that much about Lyme I took the doctor for his word. As time went bye I noticed that I was having alot of pain in my joints and muscles. I figured it was just fatigue and kept up my daily life as a fireman. Then the pain got so bad I had to go see a doctor and he told me that I should maybe look for a new career. I was 29 and smoke eating was all I knew. So I retired from the fire service and went to work for a credit card company. Well that didn't last very long I got depressed, so depressed infact that my cookoo doc told me he would help me get on SSDI. Well Now I'm on SSDI and don't work I've been on it for 3 years now. I've gained 125 pounds, I have heart disease, diabetes, high blood presure, major clinical depression, chronic pain, sleep apnea, and the list just keeps on getting longer. I've tried to comit suicide 8 times in the last 3 years. I've been homeless living on the street, in and out of hospitals, moved from New Hampshire to Michigan, but I've finally gotten my life back in order I think. I met and married my best friend, her name is Ginger. (You can see her picture in my photos section) I found God (I'm a studying Jehovah's Witness. My wife has been a Witness all her life.) We have our own home, and we have 2 dogs Katey the mom and Cassidy her pup, and 2 cats Bugghearah and Sweetpea.
Ya know if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't change a thing. Even though I hurt like crazy most of the time I am truely blessed.

Heck of a story, bud. Welcome to the family. And it is a family, bound by the fact that almost everyone here has pain 24/7. So we all know what you're dealing with. I'm Dan, one of the managers here. The others will be by I'm sure. I gotta say it's good to have another guy around the place. Me and Harvey and Adam and Shadow get stuck with all the heavy lifting around here. So it will be good to have you to stick with.. er... help with some of that. Heh heh ... Just kidding, bud. Over on the left is a lot of information on dealing with pain. Let us know if you have any questions, OK? Dan PS. Do me a favor, would you? Use a little bigger font for me? My eyes aren't what they used to be, and there are others who don't see too well also. Thanks. |

Hi Jeremy... I'm a Michigander as well... Harper Woods to be exact. Firefighting takes a toll, that's fersure. Its too bad you didn't see an Infectious Diseases specialist when you first contracted Lyme's... your history might be much different now. But then, you may not have met your lovely wife! Everything happens for a reason, of that I am certain. Hope your health has stabilized. SilverAmythesyt (Cheryl) |
