OK This is my first post.  I just joined.   I have tried everything else.  I am so hopeful this will work.

Looking for anyone that can connect to my Jersey City McCarthy's

All from Jersey City  and Ireland (but i dont know what part of ireland)

My Grandmother... Alice Francis Killmer (McCarthy). born 07/12/1905 and died 04/06/1988

Her parents were

George Frances McCarthy born 10/17/1882 and died 02/07/1923 and Julia Monahan on 04/15/1901 she was born 03/1884 and died 08/05/1914.

George was a bar tender and his wife Julia died in 1914 and he remarried to Pauline Jasinska

On the marriage and birth certificate of George I found his parents

and his parents were

Samuel McCarthy born est..1836 in Ireland  and Mary Malvera. born est. 1840 born in Ireland.   I wish I knew where in Ireland they were born.  If anyone can connect that would help.  The names are too common and Ireland is too big, so I don’t know where to start?/FONT>

Julia's Parents on the Marriage certificate are listed as

Thomas Monahan and Alice Cary.... but on her death certificate they are listed as Hugh Lynch and mother unknown.

I believe her parents are Thomas and Alice... since she would have been the one to fill out the marriage certificate.

Please email me at [email protected] if anyone can connect.... GOOD LUCK (for me i hope)....

Dennis

This looks like your George McCarthy.  Maleroy seems to be spelt wrong but may be a mistranscription.

Hi Dennis

A piece of information which Mike has found:

15 McCarthy, Samuel Private Oct. 12, '61 Oct. 18, '61 3 Yrs    Discharged at Phila., Pa., Nov. 3, '64 -  Disability
NEW JERSEY VOLUNTEERS.
Company B, Tenth Regiment

It seems that Samuel was the only person of that name in New Jersey -- would that be right?

Dennis -

There are numerous marriages listed for Eugene McCarthy.  These run from 1820 thru 1845.  It does seem quite possible they came from Co. Cork or Co. Limerick.  But as you rightly say, McCarthy is such a common name it does make it difficult.

Dennis - I am sure you will want to search for yourself, so here is the link to the Irish Family History Foundation website if you don't already have it.

It is free to register, but if you want to view and print out a record it costs Eur5.00.
