Ok I've had Broadband for so long now, I've completely forgotten how slow it was before, but I know my Broadband is 512kbps and a full birthday greetings post is loaded up within a few seconds, (The reason for using a b'day greetings post, is that it takes the longest to load, other post are just there!) if thats any help Noel.

My understanding is that Broadband is (or should be) virtually instant, wanadoo who I'm with are now providing their "cheapie" package (which I've got) £17.99/month and my modem speed is a 1.1mbps (I think 1.1 megabits per second) which is x2 the speed of a 512k modem (20 times faster than dial-up, rather than x10 with a 512k modem).  Wanadoo are now offering wireless internet (multi-connected computers without wires) for one-off £79.99 for the unit and then a monthly cost for broadband service.

I think the upload and download of "bit" amounts is the amount of data the computer can handle and the speed of downloading/uploading is regulated by the modem, but I could be talking out of the back of my head!!

I have never actually counted how many seconds it takes to download/upload, I know when I had dial-up, I visibly aged and dust settled while waiting so anything faster is a bonus.

Haven't you got a "man that can" to ask, even the computer peeps at a school or college may be able to help
