The Muladhara Chakra
The first chakra at the base of the spine.
This foudantional chakra represents the phyiscal birth of an individual consciousness into human form.
The basis issues for the consciouness of this chakra are security, food, and shelter-----the fundamental concerns of phyiscal survival.
The primary desire is for security of phyiscal existence.

The second chakra is located in the lower abdomen and is concerned with the energy of the sexual organs.
The key issues for the consciousness of this chakra are sexuallity, procreation, family, and relationship issues.

The third chakra is located in the region of the solar plexus.

The Anahata Chakra
The fourth chakra is located in the region of the heart and is the seat of balance in the body, for this is the center point of the seven chakras.
As this center is energized and purified, love, faith, devotion, inspiration, and harmonious balance are experienced.
The driving energy in this center is toward selfless love and compassion.

The Vishuddha Chakra
The fifth chakra is located in the region of the throat.
The quality of this level of awareness is connected with the element of space or ether out of which the four elements manifest.
Here in the vastness of space, contentment, purity, detachment, and serenity are experienced and dream states are understood.
A purified and energized throat chakra gives profound power and beauty to one's voice.
The motivating desire is for clarity of awareness and solitude in which to experience pure knowledge and wisdom.

The Ajna Chakra
The sixth chakra is located in the upper part of the head and represents highest expansion of meditational process.
This center is symbolized by the Sanskrit letter for the vibration that is the sound of creation, AUM.
Here, realization, austerity, clairvoyance, intuition, and heightened mental faculties are experienced in a state of self-realization.
Here the past, present and future are known as one.
The only remaining desire is for complete union with ultimate awareness.

The Sahasrara Chakra
The seventh chakra is the place where unceasing primordial vibrations of undifferenttiated awareness are experienced.
This center does not actually belong to the plane of the body, but resides at the crown of the head, a meditating point between the mind/body and higher realities.
The fifty seed syllables of the lower chakras are said twenty times to fill the thousand petals of this chakra.

You are supposed to say these in cycles of 108 repetitions because thre are 108 terminations of the nadis (The etheric nervous system webbing) and in this way energy is sent to all of them.
