Fictional Journals
A fictional journal is just that ?fiction. Although, there are many techniques that can be used to further investigate who we are, our dreams, etc?/P>
There are two types of fictional journals: Our Fantasy, and Another's Life.
Our Fantasy Journal allows one to delve into what someone wished his or her life was like. This can be anything from a seventeenth century swashbuckler, to a multi-billionaire. While writing in such a journal, we are transposed into a world of our own creation. A world where we can make the rules, set the boundaries, and change the plot as we like.
This is a healthy way of looking into ourselves, and things we would never allow ourselves to think or do, our alter-ego, a simple character in a journal, can live a life we wished.
The second, Another's Life, is a journal based on a preset character. Take a character from your favorite book, a character in your own novel who you do not know well enough, another person you know and write their journal.
This is a good technique for author's to learn more about their characters, you must be true to the character's personality, and not your own interpretations. You can learn to love, hate, despise, or be intrigued by another. If you wish, you can even write in your opinions in the journal, although you might with to use a different colour pen, or different piece of paper.
If there is someone you just cannot understand, put yourself in his or her shoes. Your boss has pressure from his boss, company deadlines, and whatnot, and yet he seems to have problems relating with others. Put yourself in his shoes and see what life is like from his perspective.
These two types of journals are works of creativity and perspective. By understand and learning the perspectives of others, we can improve our communication and understand of other people.
