Destiny and Chance
Destiny was always taking credit for all things,
While Chance protested that it was in fact he,
Haughty and pompous they regarded each other,
Yet one not any different from the other.
So much in common though they would deny,
Aside from both heads held arrogantly high,
That either stood credit for their rightful deeds,
It was only he  - It was only she�?BR>Their bickering could be heard across the lands,
As they raced against each other showing off their hand,
At love and romance and all things of the heart,
And then gloating, and arguing, and claiming their part.
The people of the lands were overwrought,
For they were falling in love again and again,
With one after another amongst this game,
Loves were lost and loves were gained,
And nothing lasted just the same.
It depended very much on who got to you first,
Destiny or Chance, either one could be worse,
For when by Chance you found your love,
Destiny could call you away,
And when Destiny seemed to have made the right match,
Chance could make you stray.
It began that the people grew tired of all this,
For a love now had no trust or depth,
It became expected that either Destiny or Chance,
Would soon arrive to that love’s death,
So the people stopped falling in love,
The pain they had amassed from all those loved and lost,
Had grown to great to be forgot.
And Destiny and Chance were brought to a stop,
It seemed no matter what they tried,
Their efforts were in vain,
For neither’s powers were enough,
To change the hearts they thought they reigned
What a puzzle to them both,
There was just no way to do it.
Admit defeat was all that was left,
And Destiny and Chance both knew it.
And so finally they came to meet,
Both humbled by what they saw on their way,
Tears, not smiles as there were yesterday.
There were no lovers holding hands,
Or making loving future plans,
There were no sweet kisses to exchange,
No soft caresses, or passionate flames.
So alone they met, in a summer field,
And there and then they struck a deal,
They would no longer win or loose,
Chance would strike, whom Destiny would choose
And so they set out hand in hand,
And restored the love to the saddened land.
And once again the people smiled,
And fell in love that lasted awhile.
And so it is that what begins in simple passing,
May now become love everlasting,
A simple smile or a friendly hello,
May be a gateway to the future’s glow,
A high regard, or a pleasant smile,
Can pave the way to a thousand miles,
A knowing heart and empathetic ear,
A friend who then becomes a dear,
A loving touch or a glimpse of warmth,
Can be an invitation to so much more,
A seeing eye may behold the truth one day,
That a sparkling eye may gave away,
And so it remained,
And it was such a moment
That gave way to your heart and mine,
And now here we are,
As Destiny would have it,
And Chance knew all the time.
