As a Reader, it is very important to realise the important responsibility you have, when you read for others regardless if you get paid or not. The sitter / client who you are reading is placing themselves/ welfare  in your hands and could be vunerable, fragile, emotional or simply needing guidence.

As a reader you are in an unique position - somewhere between a shrink, advicer, and mysterious oracle. Without realising it the sitter places readers in a position of power and any words we say or write can quite literally be taken as gospel by the sitter.

Part of our responsibility to the sitter is to also monitor how often someone wants a reading. If someone is becoming too reliant,( using readings as a crutch) this is not healthy behaviour and should be discouraged.  

 

Please note that genuine readers do not ask or want to be placed on a pedalstal. For we are human, we make mistakes and also at different stages of our Spiritual journey. We also know that our readings are for guidence only and should only be used as such.

 

The reader should never abuse this position of trust and rember that his / her words can and are very powerful, in both a positive or a negative way. One wrong comment could cause alot of damage to the sitter. Readers should always work from a place of Love and ask Spirit for guidence while reading. The wellbeing of the sitter is paramount.

 

When you are doing Readings -

 

1. Do not drink or be under the influence of any   medicine/ drugs.

2. Make sure you are well rested, energised, grounded and protected by Spirit.

3. Do not read if your are emotional, angry, tired or unwell - this will influence your reading and create bias, where there should be none.

4. Respect your Cards - your cards are your tool to contact your higher self, look after them.

5. Respect your sitter - recognise you have a responsibility to do no harm.

6. Respect your gift - If you misuse your Spiritual gift, you will lose it and have consequences / karma

7. Do not interfere with free will - you are guiding only, the sitter always has the freedom of choice.

8.Work from a place of unconditional Love.

9. Be honest, if you can't connect or read someone tell them, you are not doing yourself or the sitter any favours by pretending.

10. As the Reader you have the right to say No - you may not be feeling 100%

                                                                        - The sitter is too reliant on readings

I agree with all that is said, we as readers are not all knowing, we are but a conduit for spirit we pass on what we get from spirit. A reading is also a healing too, and can give solace to the sitter, on the other hand it can also harm the sitter if the reader starts a power trip, ie you have to come back to me next week i can give you more etc. Readers who let ego stand in the way of linking or indeed only give what the sitter wants to hear will not help the sitter. A sitter has come for guidence through a difficult part of their lives, often it is not a reading they need but a caring listening ear and common sense. When emotions cloud sense, by this i mean being too close to a situation folk can't see the wood through the trees, as an outside observer the reader can help the sitter see the problem from a different perspective.

 

Having said this a reader needs to structure the reading so that the reading will not cause fear or harm to the sitter. I find that some readers tend to generalise when they are not seeing clearly, as the previous post states that does not help anyone, spirit often give constructive advice if the connection is there. The danger is that the reader may be struggling with connection but through love needing to help may interpret things wrongly and embelish what spirit has given. Is this wrong? or it it the readers emotions taking over, needing to please and help.

 

The reader also has a responsibility to themselves learn balance in all things we need to be 100% to give 100%.

 

A sitter too has responsibility within a reading, when giving feedback to be honest with their answers, feedback is not there to boost the readers ego, most readers want honest feedback so if they are wrong then this is what the reader wants to hear, it helps readers to develop clearer links with spirit and to understand their tools be it runes cards ribbon or crystal ball, our tools are just a focus for the energy the message comes from spirit. After all we are all spirit in a vehical of our bodies.

 

As readers I believe we should not work all the time I find closing the links very beneficial i only open when i want to work with spirit...........it works for me, and that is the important thing .....what works for you. Yes we all can say do it this way or that way but remember we are individuals we all have our own path to follow,what works for one may not work for another.

 

And remember everyone has freewill, choices that they make shouldn't be influenced by a reading, a reading only gives the options. You choose what you want to take and leave the rest. Nothing is as bad as it seems at the time, and i firmly believe spirit doesn't ever give you more than you can cope with, lifes struggle are learning curves don't think of them in a negative way but find the positive in all that happens try it see if it works for you.

Some people seem to think readers are open all the time and able to pick up things all the time. 

As I see it this may be so to a certain degree when people are in the beginning stages of awareness of there abilities but even then this often is a conscious choice as they are so excited and willing and able to experiment and use these new found abilities. 

Personally I make a conscious choice of tuning in to another person, weather its to get a feel for that person or to give a reading or healing. I am not always in that state of mind or working on that vibration. It takes a certain amount of energy to tune in and its not a state of mind I would want to be in all the time as I would be, not only exhausted but also not functioning fully in the now.  

As much as its good practice to learn how to quiet the mind to allow other thoughts to emerge, we also need to focus on the task we may be doing and not worrying or focusing on always picking up the thoughts and emotions of others. So in other words once you become aware of tuning into others the next step is remembering how to shield from others and not take aboard or blend with unwanted energy

P.S to kingfishers response about being a conduit for spirit and passing on what we get from spirit.

 

I put to you their is different levels of connecting and various type's of reading and as much as I agree on the point that to some degree spirit is involved in all we do as WE are spirit we are not always working on a spiritual level.

 

Not everyone works with guides and not everyone is making the intention to conenct with spirit to gain inormation to pass on.

 

When we work on psychic level we are directing connecting to the person we are connecting with, we could say our spirit is connecting to thier spirit or some may say our guides are passing on information.

 

Basically the thoery is we are connecting to the auric fields on a psychic level so this is a energetic connection. All our emotions, our thoughts, our physical and our spiritual is reflected or as many state first manifest in our aura before becoming part of our phsyical and as we develope our sensitivities we are able to pick these up in others energetically rather than through spiritual entities.

 

So how much that we recieve is on a spiritual level and how much isnt and how well do we know how to tell the difference?

However when it comes to responsibilities of a reading that is soemthing i take very seriously as to the protection and well being of all that its always done with pure and loving intention for the highest good of all :)
