I have a ruger 223 that loves the load of 26.7gr of H335 behind a 50gr balistic tip. This load also Liked the fedreal gold metel match primers best. The bullet is seated .010 off the lands and I can get 1/2inch groups regularly with it.
This load is above max listed charge and should be aproached with caution.

I have a 223Rem with a hart 1in8 twist that simply loves 24.5gr of Varget behind a 75gr A-Max.I use winchester brass that have neck turned on a sinclare turning tool.Primers are federal match.Velocities are 2750fps without signs of pressure. At 500yds I have made 1 3/4in groups but,at 700yds the bullet becomes unstable.

Just found a dandy for my rem 223 vs . win.cases fully preped . ie. flash hloes uniformed, primer pockets same, trimed .005 short of sammi specs.cci -450 small rifle mag primers  23.5 grains of vit N-120 and 40 grn moly v-maxs seated .010 off the lands. havent put it on the crony yet but the .395 5 shot hole is fine with me . Im getting ready to make the 500 yard club for VHA and the guns zeroed at 500 thats 9 inches high at 100 . with a 10 mph wind i need to dial in about 3-4 inches to hit at 500. THIS IS BELOW MAX BUT STILL N-120 IS A FAST POWDER so be carfull!!!                                 OR LET YOUR MOTHERINLAW SHOOT IT FIRST

I shoot a Howa model 1500 in 223 Rem. and my best shooting load is...

Winchester or PMC brass 26.0gr of Win 748, CCI 400 small rifle primers and Hornady 50gr V-Max bullets. It'll shoot 0.6" groups at 200 metres. Real good!

I shot this 3 shot group at 200m (that's about 217yds) with my Howa 1500 in 223 Rem. using my accuracy load (above.) The group averages about 0.45" center to center. I'm convinced I can cloverleaf three shots at that distance, it's something to work towards anyway, lol. The first two shots are the ones that are touching, my excitement was pretty hard to containg when it was time to sqeeze off the third shot. My goal is to hit a ground squirrel at extended range this year.

My favorite load for Rem 700 VS 223 is:  26 grs of  H-335, 52 gr HPBT Seirra matchking bullet, Lake City brass, Rem 7 1/2 primers, COL 2.250. I trim and prep the cases but I havent had to turn the case necks yet. Lake city brass is good stuff. I get 1/2 - 1/4 five shot groups at 100 yrds which works for me. I also moly coat the bullets. I know a lot of people dont like Moly but I love the stuff.

In my Ruger #1B:
50 grain Hornady SX
24.0 grains Accurate 2200 ( until I run out.......only 20 lbs. left!)
Lake City brass (trimmed, neck turned and flash hole de-burred)
Remington 7 1/2 BR primer
Chronographs 3492 fps (85 degrees F)
Best group 5 shots .397" @ 100 yards- average is .432" @ 100 yards
This load works a bit better with Hornady VMax 50 grainers, but not enough to warrant the additional cost.

In my Remington XP100:
Same as above but 25.0 grains Accurate 2015 BR
Chronographs 3120 fps. (80 degrees F)
Best group - 5 shots - .218" @ 100 yards - average is .510" @ 100 yards

BOTH OF THESE LOADS ARE MAXIMUM AND SHOULD BE REDUCED BY AT LEAST 10% TO START.

Brass from RVO, once fired, cleaned, sized, trimmer, reprimed w/WW primers for $239.00/3500 rds.

Only the case mouth needs to be chamfered before reloading. With the number of rds I shoot every year, working brass is not good time management.

23.5gr Varget
77 Nosler Match
loaded to mag lenght
10 shot group will hold the "X" ring at 200
and shoots inside my call at 600

Dennis.

With the scarcity of surplus powders and the costs of new powders for practice ammunitions I purchased some mil. surplus powder marked 1660 which, according to the supplier is a recently developed powder by the U.S. Mil. for .223.  The guidelines that I was furnished was a starting load of 22 gr. and a max load of 24.5 gr.  It appears to be a ball powder similar to Win. 230 but I have not loaded any of this powder to date.  I am wondering if there is anyone on this site that has any experience with this powder.

Eric
