 Christianity

Christians believe that the Bible is the infallible word of God. This means complete trust from cover to cover, to be the ultimate authority on all things.

Without establishing the fact that the Bible is the ultimate authority, there have nothing to rest ones faith on. It is the rock we can build the house of faith on.

God is so much more than words can begin to describe, and to begin to describe Him runs the risk of pigeon-holing Him into a description or catergory... but there are some fundamental things we can understand about Him.

God has certain characteristics that make Him God. Among the many are:

1.Omniscience - the ability to know all things.

2.Omnipotence - having unlimited authority or influence, almighty. This means that God reigns supreme over all things, and that there is nothing He cannot do.

3.Omnipresence - present at all places at all times.
God the Father

The Creator of the universe and supreme ruler of the world, God the Father is many things. He is just and holy, kind and unconditionally loving...He is perfect and no other being in heaven or earth reigns over Him...yet He is gentle. He can create the tides and cause them to crash along the shore, direct the Earth to revolve around the sun... He is so much more than words can explain. A great insight into who God the Father is can be found in His name. When God spoke to Moses, and Moses asked His name, His reply was "YHWH" which means "I am."

God the Son

God the Son also has many names. The most commonly known is His earthly name, Jesus of Nazareth or Jesus Christ. He is the component of the Trinity which came down onto earth in human form, as is evidenced in the Gospel of John.

Jesus is the common thread which links the Old Testament and New Testament. In the Old Testament, the prophets spoke of a coming messiah who would save the world through His death.

Imporatant and essential beliefs on Jesus are:

He was born of a virgin, Mary. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born without sin.

Joseph was considered His earthly "father" and was of the house of David. This point is especially essential to our Jewish friends.

He entered public ministry at about the age of 30 and ministered for three years.

At the end of those three years, He was put to death by the Jewish community in opposition to Him. He was crucified and placed in a tomb for "three" days.

At the end of those three days, He bodily rose from the dead through the power of God and appeared to His followers and many others.

He ascended into heaven at the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. He will return again personally and premillenially to establish His kingdom on earth.
(His ressurection recognizes life after death and reincarnation. This "death" and "rebirth" can signify many aspects of belief, such as...awakening to the spirit.)

God the Holy Spirit

God the Holy Spirit has been involved in humanity for all time, but has gained a more personal role since the resurrection and ascension of Jesus into heaven.

When Jesus ascended into heaven, He promised the Holy Spirit to be many things for the Christian. Among the roles of the Holy Spirit we have:

1. Counselor - The Holy Spirit is our strength in times of need.

2. Empowerer - The Holy Spirit gives us power to boldly proclaim God's truth. He also empowers us to be faithful and obedient and to walk with the Lord.

3. Convictor - He helps people recognize their sinful state, and it is through His prompting that many come to faith in Christ. He also serves as our "conscience", helping to distinguish good from evil.
It is through the Holy Spirit that people feel the prompting to come to faith in Christ and the Spirit that appropriates the Gifts of the Spirit. If you as a believer have felt this "feeling" after being saved... that of being "different" , that is the Holy Spirit living and working in you. He indwells the believer and leads them as they walk with God on the spiritual paths of ones journey.

God's plan for our lives is becoming more like Him, through Jesus. God's plan for us is also that we live life more fully... that while we may not have everything we want in life, God wants us to have complete faith that He will provide for everything we need. He wishes us to grow more and more in the faith while we are here on Earth and become a living example of Him.

What God Expects of Us.

Stay away from sin.

Become more like His Son.

Share the Gospel with others.
Ok, now the question remains, what are God's laws? For that we tap into the Ten Commandments.

Laws Pretaining to God

1. You shall not worship any other "gods" but the Lord. (Ex.20:2-3)

2. You shall not make any idols or worship any engraven images. (Ex.20:4-6) This goes hand-in-hand with number one. What is an idol? Any statue, image, physical item that you honor or glorify above the Lord.

3. Honor the creative process of the Lord by observing a sabbath day, or day of rest.(Ex.20:8-11) This means that you should take one day and use that day to spend time with God, honoring Him. Most of us use Sunday as that day, because that also gives us a chance to gather and fellowship as believers in a setting of worship.
Laws pertaining to man.
4. Honor Your Father and Mother (Ex.20:12).

5. You shall not murder. (Ex.20:13).

6. You shall not commit adultery. (Ex.20:14) This includes the act of adultery as well as having sexually impure thoughts about another person who is not your spouse.(Mt.5:27-32).

7. You shall not steal. (Ex.20:15) Self-explanitory.

8. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. (Ex.20:16) Simply put, do not lie.

9. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. Goes hand-in-hand with adultery. Covet means to strongly desire, to the point of obsessing over having it.

10. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor. (Ex.20:17)

History and Future With God
What He has done and what He will do.

The Lord has always protected His children. This doesn't mean He always keeps them from sufferings, as it is in suffering that often we grow the most spiritually.

What having His protection means can be summarized in 2 Chronicles about those who were turning away from Him:
2CH 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
He promises protection for His people who are ardently seeking His will.
