Thanks to Glenn's transcripts...here are the words that Bob Hughes and others said at the end of the Thanksgiving program:

  • Kim: Thanks so much, everybody. You just did a terrific job. Now, we've got plenty of food left, so it's time to fill your own plates, and come on and eat up.
  • Bob: Listen, before we do that, if I could just have a minute of your time. I'd just like to say that -- well, that being here, sharing our blessings with those that are less fortunate than us, well, that's really what thanksgiving means to me. I think we can all be proud of ourselves, not just sharing a holiday meal, but -- but reaching out with love and respect, bringing people together. Families. Families and communities, and this world that we share. Of course, there are gonna be disagreements and arguments, and sometimes we hurt each other. But what divides us seems so small when we realize how much we've shared. So if we all realize that, I think we have a lot to be thankful for.

THE SNYDERS GATHER AROUND THE TABLE
  • Bob (voice-over): This is a family holiday. Everyone's on good behavior, even people who rarely speak to each other. People who might otherwise be alone are brought into the circle of family. Different generations actually make a stab at talking to each other. At every thanksgiving table, we feel the presence of those far from home, and those who have passed, but they're with us in spirit. That's the miracle of love. And of all the blessings for which we give thanks, love is the greatest and the most profound.

Full plates and rich food are not what this day is about. It's the love that produced this special meal, and dragged family members from television sets and computers to come together and to give thanks, and try to ease our hectic lives and fears and anxieties, even if it's just for this day. It's love, and it's love that makes the miracle.

BOB HUGHES, KIM HUGHES, AND NANCY HUGHES
  • Bob: So, thanks, everybody, for coming and sharing, and holding hands with families all over this wonderful country. Well, I guess we should count our blessings, give thanks, and keep the spirit of this day in our hearts every day.
  • Kim: God bless.
  • Nancy: And happy Thanksgiving
