Tyco woke up in a very fiesty mood and decided she wanted to have a little fun. She put her head down so I could give her neck a scritch but when I went in to accomadate her she lunged at me. I imediatly turned my back and walked away. Well she didn't like the fact that I was ignoring her and decided she was going to get my attention one way or the other. This is what she did I have a bay window and Tycos Swing, boing, and rope hang from the top front window frame and she decided to get my attention she would do a little redecorating. She so knows better. She definatley got my attention. her boing no longer hangs from there. Oh well least its just the trim Its easy enough to replace. just look at that face I bet she thinking Tyco 1 mom 0 haha gottcha. |

Pat, I know you are not going to be happy with me but that S hook scares me to death... please get rid of it ... I'm sorry but I get so worried that even my stomach does somersaults ... I really am sorry and I know the others will enjoy the pix every bit as much as I do... It is so cute, been there and done that...lol Let me tell you about a friend in AZ that had the Hy macaws... He adored his birds and one day the female got herself caught under the beak on an S hook,... She hung there and eventually died. So since then I am terrified if I see an open link or see a S hook.. Please understand I only mean the best for Tyco.... |

Usealy Tycos swing hangs from that hook but she unhooked it this morning before starting to chew. I put her swing back up and closed the hook with a pair of vice grips and then screwed it in further so that the opening is flush with the ceiling there is no way I want to be climbing up there to constantly putting the swing back up I don't like heights I have trouble standing on a chair to change a light bulb so I fixed it so she can't unhook it or get anything caught on it. I don't know how that one got missed in the first place I usually close all the hook just for that reason |

Oh Pat wonderful! and a great solution to what possibly coud have been an accident about to happen... I know it isn't funny but seeing the damage they can do in such a short time makes us chuckle.... I have them try to attack the baseboards so to follow them down the hallway to their room is the longest walk one can have... a daily walk at that!! |

There is a product on the market, available at lots of bird shops and internet shops to fix her little butt so she can't get to any woodwork. It's called a ceiling guard and hangs from a ceiling hook. Extends 12 to 18 inches down and has a ring to hang her swing. It's either plastic or acrylic, mine is acrylic, and it's too slick for her to climb it. The Perch Store has them. Saves lots of damage to my ceiling. Annie |

Pat, Tyco's so cute hanging there, admiring her work. I had a bad experience with the s hooks also. I have them to hold up the plastic deals that are put on flourescent lights. They are in front of the bird room windows, to keep my cockatiels from hitting the windows when they fly. One day I went to the room and found my orginal male cockatiel hanging from the s hook. His band was caught on the s hook. After I got him loose, I fixed all the s hooks so that he couldn't get caught again. He is the only one to have a band, and must have worked at it a bit to get himself caught. Fortunately, he was unhurt. That was my first thought when I saw the s hook, so I'm glad that isn't a concern for Tyco. Kathy |

Now thats something I need for Tyco and Fergie I have natural wood around all my windows and Fergie thinks its there just for her. It won't hurt her because its untreated wood but I'm always telling her no and moving her away. Tyco is usually pretty good about leaving the home furnishings alone. She has never chewed anything before this morning and she did that within about 5 minutes. I gave her som new branches from my Lilac tree that I cut and cleaned last week they where drying in the sun on my sundeck. that will keep them busy for a day or two they like to chew the bark off of them. They have tons of wood toy's to chew but they don't hardy pay any attention to them. Tyco loves her foot toys anything she can chuck on the floor so I have to pick it up for her. and of course they love their big bells. |

I just hate those leg bands if I had my way no birds would have them. I guess the breeders need them so they can identify which bird goes with which parents but the one that their selling as pets shouldn't need them If its nessesary to have a leg band then attach one to each birds hatch cetificate. Thats what Sprouts breeder did . I only have 3 birds that have rings and as soon as the Gps microchip comes out. those rings will be cut off and all of my birds will have Microchips. I may have my IRN's cut off before that as he's a bit of a bigger bird and I worry about the rings on the bigger birds more because they have more out of cage time than the Cockateils. He had to have a ring because they won't give you a Dna certifcate without something to Identify the bird thats being tested. he's DNA tested male I can't wait til he gets his neck rings. to me they look like they have a beautiful pink gem on the back of the necks arter they get their neck rings. I just love my baby he is the sweetest little guy his hatch date was Mar. 23 2008 I brought him home right after he weaned at 12 weeks old . They are great little birds. I don't understand why they have such bad reputations. |

Being a former breeder all I can say is TG there was such a thing invented as the band... Without a band to trace the bird lineage we would be interbreeding... Some people buy a bird as a pet but the bird bit them... the bird then has a reputation and the next thing you know is it is sold, resold and finally gets a home as a breeder... The band makes sure the breeder isn't buying a sibling of the hen or cock in the aviary... Now the band can be removed by a vet and since I lost Augusta, who had her band removed at her first vet check, I could kick myself as I would have had proof of the bird I believe to be Augusta. given to someone who said it was his bird... Micro chip? not here till they find a "reader" that is universal... and to date that hasn't happened.... |

I undersand that the Breeders need leg band to keep track of their birds . It doesn't mean I have to like them. I just hope one day their will be a better way to track birds other rhan putting a band around their leg that has the potential to hurt or mame the bird. |
