MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE 1 Coffee Mug 4 tablespoons flour (that's plain flour, not self-rising) 4 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons baking cocoa 1 egg 3 tablespoons milk 3 tablespoons oil 3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional) Small splash of vanilla
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. EAT! (This can serve 2 if you want to share!)
And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night! |

GB, really, even with all those ingredients it is very quick and easy. Cleanup is not so quick. Cocoa in a saucepan is not my idea of easy to clean. Crystal, get a bakery cake and make one of these. See which one gets eaten first. My friend Kay made this for Christmas in 1971, the first Christmas I knew her. Everyone who has eaten it wants the recipe so I just print them up. Does anyone remember the Chocolate Pudding Cake and Lemon Pudding Cake mixes from years ago? We loved those cakes. The cake was a single layer, 9 x 9, and since there were 5 of us we ate all of it for dessert. I can't remember who made them. Major cake mix company, probably Betty Crocker. I found similar sounding recipes on the internet but haven't felt like making one yet. This one went into the pan very liquid and when baked the cake part rose to the top and there was thick pudding on the bottom when it was done. Served it hot. Oh my, I need one. Annie |

It kind of does sound like MS Mud but this one needed to be eaten with a spoon. Lots of pudding in the bottom. I have to stop talking about this now. Gee. Mmmmm. Maybe MaKenzie would make me one? Annie |

Tried, tested and enjoyed! No explosions of chocolate mess and it came out of the mug pretty easily too. Wonder if there are any good variations... like nuts instead of chocolate chips etc? I'm so not a cook and that's why this cake is perfect |

I was afraid you would get a chocolate omelet. Just seemed like one egg to only a little flour would do that. Now maybe I will go see if I have the cocoa to try this. Indy |

Sure Craig, leave out the choc chips, add a couple tablespoonsful of chopped nuts. Here in Oklahoma we have pecans, but walnuts or whatever grows in Great Britain would work. I'd probably love chopped toasted almonds. I wonder how butterscotch chips would be? People use them sometimes in chocolate desserts. Or maybe white chocolate chips. Mmmmm, getting better all the time. Let us know, but don't make yourself sick being our test kitchen. Annie |

I tried the mug cake, and either I did it wrong or I just don't like it. Either way, it wasn't good. That one you posted Annie with the 17 ingredients - that one I'll try and see if I like it though. It sounds good!! Emms |

Emms, what happened to yours? Just wrong taste for you or disaster? Linda, did you make it? What happened to yours? We do need mug sizes or it may make a real big mess. Hadn't thought of that. I never use a mug and Hubby's are not very big. Maybe 10 ounces. Not sure without going in there to measure them. Annie |

10 ounce mugs makes a heck of a mess and it didnt taste that great either - something either didnt get mixed good in the cup cause its close or we are missing something -
I will stick to going to the discount hostess store and getting the cupcakes with filling or ho hos.
but then I told ya all I don't cook - but I thought I could microwave

Several of the local restaurants serve desserts in mugs now. Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Key Lime, Chocolate Pudding Cake -- good stuff like that. Easy to eat and not too filling. I haven't tried this recipe yet....maybe this weekend. Barb |

I think I am convinced that when I can try this Mug cake I will bake it in a Corningware cereal bowl. That should be a good size, 16 ounces, and cook for less time. Annie |

Annie,
It looked fine, smelled good, and I was really excited to eat it, but it just did not taste good.
I'm not sure what went wrong. I mixed everything like it said to, but it was not sweet like I thought it was going to be. I was expecting it to taste like cake, or like the "molten lava cake" that they sell in the frozen food section, etc. But it just didn't.
It could have been me. I could have missed something in the ingredients list.
I'm curious to hear what other people think when they try it. If they have good luck, then I will try again.
