"GHOST DANCE ROCKABILLY"

Blessings. Sometimes a view to a kill (discussions on Viewing the Deadies) will detour into another discussion. Ghost dancing isn’t something folks usually ask about, unless they’re Navaho. But the premise behind the Dance is universal. Ya got an infection that Ails ya; ya been Teethed by a ghost. This here Dance cures what Ails ya. Period.

Wind Walkeraugh: another question?

Kellog: geez, wear me down, girl.

Wind Walkeraugh: I am greedy tonight. when you spoke of Ghost Dance it awakened something in me. one day a week or so ago I was playing native music and chatting. I began to feel strange…got very hot…and seemed my ears opened to the chanting on the music. I felt something stir within me…began to shake. Then I said the words of the chant in my mind although I did not know the language. I wanted to dance. I felt as if I was as iron inside, growing. in a sense leaving my body to grow larger. all the time this music played I felt this way. It was Ghost Dance and Cries to the Great Spirit that played. what happened to me? my entire body felt as if it was not mine…it was so strange.

Kellog: Wind Walker…first off: you don’t own your body; it is a rental.

Wind Walkeraugh: true

Kellog: second: you have an affinity to the Chants. what nation music were you playing - lakota? Crow? (don’t say Cherokee J )

Wind Walkeraugh: Cherokee

Kellog: geez

Wind Walkeraugh: why?

Kellog: because The People are strange anyway J

Wind Walkeraugh: I think it was…it is here I will look; it was Navajo. Sorry.

Kellog: better.

Wind Walkeraugh: recorded live in 1933.

Kellog: ok ?here is a Very Simple version of what’s up.

you were listening to a Ghost Way dance. The Ghost Way dance - is given to a person who has had a Touch with a spirit. Navahos don’t like contact with dead ancestors at all. In fact, if they have contact, they get "cooties". (my term J ) The "Cooties" is a way of describing what happens if a Navaho gets touched by a ghost (deadie ?spirit.) They get Infection of their own spirit. So they have a "ghost way " dance, to release the infection.

Remember ?this is a layman’s explanation; my tribal granddad will kick my butt if I don’t preface this writing with that caveat. J

Anyway, the dance - chant --- is like a mantra. If performed well, it can be used as an aid in astral travel. Which makes sense, because the healing --- takes place in the Crack between the Wurlds. It was an expensive dance to give at that time...and a great reason to have a powwow. All the clan relatives had to attend (both Mother’s clan and father’s clan), and the primary family of the afflicted person had to have presents and food for the dancer and the guests. Cool way to clean up at a party, and meet chicks.

Wind Walkeraugh: lol

Kellog: Anywho --- of all the dances, this one is difficult to prepare, and to perform. It's a long one, lasting two days. (well - three - counting preparation); weekend party. If you had recording made in 1933…you probably had Tsose or chinlee; tribal dancers were still well regarded back then. Now - it's more ceremonial - not actual/practical. The generation back then - really Lived that stuff.

I've lived a bit out in the mesas (shiprock, 4 corners), moving from summer camp to winter camp with the goat herds. if you live away from the roads, it is a different world. it's not surprising that the Dance had that affect on you, seeing that you have Visions every day, with meals.

Wind Walkeraugh: lol

Kellog: some of the psychic/lookieloos would say your chakras were opened, yada yada. think of it in a simple way:

When you almost croaked, ya left a piece of yur hide in the Crack between the Wurlds. That piece conducts sound and feeling - back to you…because it is part of you. Your spirit yearns to the release; and every time you hear a Sound that is in tune with that Piece of hide - in the Crack…it resonates (vibrates), and puts you in Tune with the other side. Thus - the visions, the strange shit, yada. And the inevitable feeling that your missing a part somewhere.

a good ghost dance - the sound --- will make you shiver. literally. guaranteed. am I wrong - or am I wrong? J

Wind Walkeraugh: Kellog if I played this music and did not fight the feeling that comes what would happen to me? I did shiver…was shaking all over. you are right…I understand now.

Kellog: J what would happen to you? Don’t you want to astral travel?

Wind Walkeraugh: would I join the spirits?

Kellog: nah. Well, only for a while; your time isn't up, yet. And I ain’t telling ya when it is, so don’t ask.

Wind Walkeraugh: I mean in their dance…to see them…know of them…do you know when it is?

Kellog: Wind Walker

Wind Walkeraugh: oh dear…yes?

Kellog: Give yourself a treat. Listen to the ghost dance, get Into the sounds ---- and let loose. You'll have a great time. Probably pee your pants, but a great time. You will see stuff that will make you shit, and sing. Peyote trip without the drugs. Your mind's eye is like a tuning fork. USE it.

Wind Walkeraugh: I have been tempted to do that but did not know if I should…I am still learning remember???

Kellog: you never stop learning, dear. neither do any of us. Don’t let that be an excuse.

Wind Walkeraugh: I will do it…for my curiosity is great.

Kellog: Don’t do it for curiosity…do it FOR FUN. You complained about the pain, earlier. yada yada. This is a chance to get some - of the other stuff. the FUN; the reason why the pain is necessary. There is a slight risk…FYI. you may not wanna come back! J

Wind Walkeraugh: lol got me !!! LOL

Kellog: actually…you need the clearing that the dance will bring ya. how much native are you? 40%?

Wind Walkeraugh: I will do it and when it is over I will tell you what I see, and feel.

Kellog: 1/3? 1/2? 57%?

Wind Walkeraugh: I am Cherokee and blackfoot…all family native except one person who jumped in?0 per cent I would say.

Kellog: Anyhow…the people…that's what you call yourselves. "the people", versus all the rest of us in the hall. J there's a legend says you guys came from the heavens.

Wind Walkeraugh: I am of the star people.

Kellog: There ya go. star folks.

Wind Walkeraugh: I am a keeper.

Kellog: Star folks been visiting most every nation for centuries, from what I hear…native nations. In fact, my tribal granddad had a star folk in shiprock in 1950.

Wind Walkeraugh: yes, I am 2000 years old which considering some is young.

Kellog: Well - enuf of the memory lane stuff.

Wind Walkeraugh: lol

Kellog: So - ya got it straight on this ghost dance?

Wind Walkeraugh: yes I will and then share with you.

Kellog: Make sure to empty your bladder first.

Wind Walkeraugh: lol I will.

Kellog: Seriously. I speak, only ever, from experience. J but it -is your bed clothes. J

Wind Walkeraugh: LOL. Kellog again you teach me well?/P>

Kellog: ok - you have a great day, now - hear? and kick that manitou in the head for me.
