The Thousand-Petaled Lotus
The thousand-petaled lotus symbolizes the idea that everything in the universe is connected. The center of the lotus is the idea or object that you have chosen for your meditation. Each of the petals symbolizes the connection between the center and something else. The idea of a thousand petals is representative of there being an infinite number of petals. There is no limit to the number of connections.
To begin this meditation, choose an object or idea or word that you want to focus on. Picture this as the center of the lotus. Simply contemplate the center. When an association with the center arises, contemplate it and its connection to the center. Do this for a few seconds. If you do not understand the connection, that is fine, ponder it for a few seconds, then let it go. Return your focus to the center. As each association arises, contemplate the connection for a few moments, then return to the center. An example of this could be that you have chosen the word love for the center. Say the first associaton to come up is the word heart. You ponder the connection between the two words for a few moments, then return to the word love and wait for the next association. Continue this for as long as you like.
