I wonder if, during your searches you might find out anything on Maria Conroy (1854)? she married Thomas Hanly (1843).

i've just realised when checking my family tree, that Maria's father's surname was Doyle! do you think that either she took her mother's maiden name, or that she was possibly married before my great grandfather? i've no dates on her mother!

Many thanks for your help on Hanly + Doyle names.

I remember searching for Maria Conroy, but in vain.  Of course, if Conroy was not her maiden name that would make it almost impossible to find her.

If as you say her father was Doyle, then it seems most likely that she had been married to a Conroy at one time.  We cannot be sure of course without proof.

I will look into this further for you.

Thanks for the e-mail re Maria Conroy.

Maria Conroy could possibly be Maria Doyle?

I've 3 surnames for her: Kelly, Conroy + Doyle.

Recently I asked if when you were searching, if you could find any info on Maria Conroy, if only I had taken time to read the certs that you recently 'translated' for me. Her name was on one as Mary Kelly.
Also on the marriage cert, of my grandparents Peter Hanly + Mary Doyle, it has a witness named John Kelly. I’m wondering if he might have been a brother of Mary’s. Hopefully now we know her proper name it'll be easier to find her?
The surname 'Conroy' came from my cousin on her side of the family tree.
I apologise for any trouble you may have gone to searching for someone who doesn’t exist, on my account.

Mary - I am getting confused here.   I thought we were looking for Maria Kelly who married widower Michael Doyle as per the marriage certificate in message no. 4?

While searching for Michael Doyle, could you see if you come across any details of his wife: Mary Kelly, born 1853 Caher House, Drummin, Ballinagare, Castlerea, Co Roscommon. .

I've found some information on a Mary Ella Kelly, born 1851, in Ireland. this Mary Kelly's parents are: Parents: Thomas Kelly + Bridget McNiff. Thomas Kelly's parents are: Martin Kelly, Bridget Neville.

I'm not sure if this is the same person, or not.
many thanks for your help, now + in past.

Hi Kate

I'm hoping to go to Dublin, to do some research on family tree.

My question is what do you suggest I bring with me to do it? i.e. names etc.

many thanks

Just make sure to bring with you all relevant details from your family tree of the people you are researching, and make a list of the things you specifically want to find out.  This will save you time when you go to the archives.

There is also the National Library in Kildare Street where you may find records of interest.  And Trinity College would be well worth a visit.

It might be good to check out the places you want to visit (on the Internet) before you go.

And don't forget your Euros and your camera!

We wish you all the best.
Marian
