Anytime an "ito" is added to a Spanish word it means little, so little Nacho. I love that name.
He is a doll. I have never had a quaker but I love the looks of them.

There used to be a website of a Quaker saying lots of things and singing the cutest little songs. I can't get the songs to open any more. You would love it. His name is Pluto. Before he was a year old he had learned 70 words and had the cutest voice.
I have really searched this afternoon and he's no longer on the internet.

lol, Annie- that bird is HILARIOUS!! I especially like peek-a-boo ;) Nachito enjoys watching too!
Thanks, all...He's such a good bird. A little brushing up to do on step-up, but I've figured out if I just threaten to pick up a stick, he'll do it right away...Seems he'd rather step up to me than a step up on a stick- lol- nice to know I am preferred.
He is starting to get used to hubby. Seems he no likes men, but that will change. He likes to get a treat from hubby, but really would like to take a chunk of him too. Had to tell hubby he better not reward him with a treat if he gonna bite (Hubby has never been around birds, but is wonderful with all animals). I've been able to stop the nipping if I've got Nachito on my arm and give him a wobble when he tries to bite. Hubby can breifly pet him then, but still a few time-outs ahead I think when hubby tries to touch him when I don't have control- lol.
I love his purring...and is funny when he barks. His previous owner had dogs, and I'm sure that is a bark I'm hearing now and then.
It's so much fun to discover things about a new bird. For me, this is really my first parrot. I've waited many years for the time to be "right", enjoying others' birds and learning. I'm glad I waited, and it also makes it that much more exiting...but I may drive everyone here completely crazy with my long posts- ha ha!

Marianne, you have a real gem!  Thanks for sharing him with us!
The intellegence in these little green bodies is constantly underrated!  Combine that with being CUTE and you will never experience boredom in your home again!
While I've never shared my home with this particular species - they were very popular with the families in our 4-H group.  You could always count on them to provide intertainment thoughout our meetings!
My parents are blessed with seeing these birds in their "natural" environment.  The town goes out of their way to protect them and they are so much fun to observe!  I think I've posted these pictures before - but have no idea where they might be now!
Crystal

Taken in the town of Yacolt, Washington - the flocks have taken over the city!  They build these HUGE community nests around certain poles that give off heat.  The weather there is pretty chilly most of the year. LOL.....a condo with ammenities!!

Marianne, I am going to love your "long" messages. Tickles me to death when someone is so happy with their little guy.
Here's a site in Chicago showing some community Quaker (Monk parakeet) nests. Look at how many birds are on these nests. There are many nests within just one large twig structure. They are very social birds.

LOL- I knew they had been colonizing many areas, but had no idea what their nests were like until this thread- ha ha!
Last night I was browsing old songs on the intranet- We had terrible storms and he seemed to relax when I played music. There is one in particular that just set this baby right off..... The Lime and The Coconut by Harry Nilsson! OMG- He was trying to sing it and bobbing his head! He seemed to like the rythm, and was kinda grunting along with it. I bet he would pick this one up quick- probably had heard it before? Just too cute!

Marianne - what a cute little guy Nachito is!  You'll have such fun with him!
Oh - and did you see Pluto sing the "I'm a Little Quaker" song - and also the one of him trying to get his owner to sing along?  Soooo cute - you'll have to teach that one to Nachito!

He sounds so cute in the Quaker song but my favorite is Chickety China on page 2. The part at the end is so funny.

He is so cute!  But unfortunately they are illegal here in PA.  And their fate isn't nice when they do come and get them.  I would love to have one.  I didn't go to Annies link yet but it might be the one I think it is.  I have it saved somewhere on this PC with the quaker singing.

I read somewhere once (I do alot of feather picking searching) that they need things to weave with to keep them busy.  Helps them from starting featherpicking.  I remember somewhere I seen where someone let them make them kind of nests you see outside that they make right in the cage.  It was cool.
