I'd like to mention 3 sarah waters books in this message, two i have read, and are brilliant, the third, i've reviewed, and is next on my 'to read' list. the first, FINGER SMITH, is set in the 1800's. it is about a family of thieves, who send of thier youngest daughter to take part in a major swindle of a rich young lady. the story has so many twists and turns, it will keep you on the edge of your seat. i realy enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to anyone, gay or not. i'd give it 9/10 the second book, TIPPING THE VELVET. again, set in the 1800's. you may have seen the series a few months ago, and if you enjoyed that, the book is a must, it is so much better than the TV adaptation. for those who did not see the TV series, it is about a young lady, from a 'poorish' town, who experiences lesbian feelings towards a singer. she ends up leaving home, and her adventures are both good and bad. this is an amazing story! 10/10 and last, AFFINITY. i've not read this yet, but will add here as soon as i do. again, it is set in the 1800's, and is about a young psychic, who finds herself locked up in a womens prison. going by the previous books, i'd guess this is also a great read. if you have read this, please leave your opinion below. Enjoy ladies luv janx |

Hi everyone I'd just like to agree about these amazing books. My fave is Tipping The Velvet but the others would get 9 3/4 each from me. Sarah Waters is an excellent writer. She really brings places and characters to life so you can almost feel them. The Victorian settings are very atmospheric. You feel transported there! I read very widely, but there aren't many books I'd give a second read, but these are too good to only read once! Sorry for ranting on but I am a big fan. Tipping the Velvet is very naughty tooBettyB xxx |

SARAH WATERS...MY FAVE AUTHOR AT THE MOMENT I HAVE READ "TIPPING THE VELVET" TWICE,AND THOROUGHLY ENJOYED IT. "AFFINITY" WAS A LITTLE HARDER TO GET INTO. BASICALLY IT'S ABOUT MARGARET,WHO IS A PRISON VISITOR. THIS IS HOW SHE MEETS AND BECOMES INFATUATED WITH SELINA,AN IMPRISONED PSYCHIC. I TOO HAD A SADNESS COME OVER ME AT THE END-TOTALLY UNEXPECTED OUTCOME,AND YOU JUST WANTED TO BASH SELINA'S FACE IN.. . I MIGHT GIVE IT ANOTHER GO AND SEE IF I CAN TAKE TO IT A BIT BETTER. "FINGERSMITH" IS MY OUT AND OUT,TOTAL FAVOURITE BOOK!!(KNOCKING "WEAVEWORLD" BY CLIVE BARKER OFF THE #1 SPOT HE'S OCCUPIED FOR LIKE 16 YEARS!!). I HAVE READ IT 4 TIMES,AND ALWAYS SEEM TO NOTICE SOMETHING NEW. I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH,IT WAS MY MISSION TO BUY ALL FAMILY AND FRIENDS A COPY FOR 2004'S BIRTHDAYS!! (ELLE GETS HER COPY AT THE END OF OCTOBER!).GIVE IT A READ,GIRLS,IT'S TRULY OUTSTANDING,I PROMISE!

hi, just to say i got my edition of fingersmith from ebay for a quid, yes the best £1 i've spent! fab book couldnot put it down - gf loves it too. at the moment am reading more tales of the city, loved tales of the city and couldnot put it down. armisread maupin - i think there are 6 in the series. i found it difficult to get into initially and made a second attempt on the first book, which then i found i couldnt put down. recommended by my mother, i think my brother bought them for her as a present. very re-readable. of note, there was a new bookgroup for gay and lesbians in Salford tonight, and the book they were first reviewing was fingersmith. |

think they made a great job of keeping to the original story. usually, when films, series, are made from a book, they either loose the plot, or make so many changes that it's barely the same, but as far as i can remember, this followed sarah's story perfectly. am i right in saying that sarah had alot to do with the making of tipping the velevet, and the fingersmith series?? anyway, i enjoyed it loads, they picked great people to play the parts, looking forward to it coming out on dvd hugs jan x |

A great leap forwardReviewed by Tim Teeman Sarah Waters has left behind the Victorian era for her new novel. And alongside her women characters there is even room for a male hero | | | THE NIGHT WATCH by Sarah Waters Virago, £16.99, 480 pages | |
Is this a new one? I came across it today but also a lot of background information about Sarah....if you fans I mean members are interested Times Online |
