"Are you my friend ?" You Ask
Whilst there may be times - for all of us -
when we retreat into ourselves
and say we have no need of others.
And whilst at times, someone else
may fill the gap ... I have to say?/FONT>
If hearing the sound of your voice brings me joy,
means I am your friend...
If knowing I will miss you deeply
while you are away,
means I am your friend...
If my eyes fill with tears
when no-one else can fill the space
that you so uniquely do -
means I am your friend...
If knowing that one day I might
stand beside your grave,
with an ache that no-one can fill -
means I am your friend...
If I feel alone and afraid of being without you
and yet walk on through life
and smile and give to others,
then even if we are hundreds of miles apart
or if death separates us -
I am your friend.
Is Christmas a Happy Time?
Trees, lights and presents, greetings on cards,
smiles as we meet in the street.
Christmas is such a happy time,
isn't it ?
On the first Christmas, though, a young girl was pregnant
'Unmarried', they said,
'they'll never believe she's expecting God's Son.
Come ! Joseph, marry her quick !'
He did so and soon, her full term had come
and just as they needed quiet,
they had to depart, belongings and all
and trundle to Bethlehem.
When they arrived, needing love, warmth and rest,
rejection was all they found.
Confined to a stable, surrounded by dirt -
it was there their baby was born !
Was their Christmas a happy time ?
Well, was it ?
What of the refugee or homeless one,
a tent or box as home.
No presents, no cards, no blankets for warmth,
is Christmas a happy time there ?
What of the old and the lonely
and those just bereaved.
What about those in hospital beds -
not knowing if they will survive.
What about families in crisis ?
Will another mince pie heal the pain ?
I'm in Need of Your Love
I'm in need of your love,
like the flowers need the rain
like animals need their food,
and a cat loves its cream !
I'm in need of your love,
like a mother needs her baby,
like a father needs his food,
and a child needs loving carers.
I'm in need of your love,
like the stars need the sun,
like the sun needs the moon,
like I've never needed love before.
